DPD asks public not to video record them

Apparently, because the they uses dash cams and plan to buy body cams, the Dallas Police Association feels the public should not be video taping their actions in public.
Dallas Police Association President Ron Pinkston wants citizens to stop taping because he worries someone will get hurt. “It’s creating a major officer safety issue,” he said. “We don’t know who it is pulling behind us. We don’t know they’re there to videotape, they might be part of… if that guy has has just done a kidnapping they could be part of the kidnapping. You don’t know.”
and
Officials with the police association say they support squad car dashboard cameras and the department’s plans to buy body cams. They believe those are enough eyes watching their every move and are asking citizens to put their cameras away.

Of course, it could also be because it makes the liars who file false reports look bad, and that isn't good for the "association", such as the case discussed here:

Of course my innate mistrust of authority likely plays a role in my opinion.

Sounds like my kids asking me not to monitor their internet browsing.

Precisely JMRA......that is a ridiculous request.
If they are in public they can be recorded same as anyone else. They have no "expectation of privacy" in the course of their duties. Their duties are completed in public and are thus recordable. If they don't want to be embarrassed don't do stupid stuff.

Are they talking about the group called cop block? They are a group of trolls who have nothing better to do other than follow cops around and try to incite a negative reaction for views on YouTube. They are a lot like the Texas OC groups.

There is a saying on web pages and it counts in real life too.
"Don't feed the trolls."
If they are trolling...go about your business and ignore them. They are looking for a reaction. Don't give them the satisfaction.
This little request is like giving 15 steak dinners to the trolls.

They remind me of the OSHA guys who would come out on big jobs and follow you around waiting for you to mess up so they could send you home or have you fired. Annoying to say the least walking on eggs shells the whole shift.

They may well be trolls, but they too have every right. Also it wasn't worded as just cop block, they are asking the public at large. Sorry if you don't like them, but rights are rights and public officials can and most likely will be videotaped in public.

Yeah...they're jack..... but we all have to deal with that in our lives. Being stupid and making stupid requests just makes it worse.

Never said they didn't have the right to do such. WBC has every right to protest our dead soilders funerals but doesn't mean I have to like or agree with them. Having your own personal paparazzi who follow you around and getting involved in all your work affaires would get annoying pretty quick.

Maybe DPD should ask the public to video record them and the trolls would get bored and go home.

The falsified reports, abuse of power, and unjustified shootings get annoying pretty quickly too. A few bad apples...

So do having cops eyeballing me and aiming those radar guns at me is pretty stinking annoying to me.
We all have to deal with annoyances. My mother in law lives with us. You want to hear about annoyances?

That's stupid. Empower your officers to handle an officer safety issue if present, but remind them all is fair game in the public eye.

Any cop who is a professional and proud of their work would not object to being filmed. In fact they would encourage it, because they often get bogus complaints of mistreatment and subjects who lie about not starting the altercation that led to their arrest. The police association is on the wrong side of this, and by doing so they contribute to a lack of trust of authority.
