WAUKESHA, Wis. – Prosecutors say two 12-year-old southeastern Wisconsin girls stabbed their 12-year-old friend nearly to death in the wood to please a mythological creature they learned about online.
Both girls were charged as adults with first-degree attempted homicide Monday in Waukesha County Circuit Court; they each face up to 60 years in prison if convicted. A court commissioner set bail at $500,000 cash per child. According to a criminal complaint, the girls had been planning to kill their friend for months and finally made the attempt in a park on Saturday morning, after a slumber party.
One of the girls told a detective they were trying to become "proxies" of Slender Man, a mythological demon-like character they learned about on creepypasta.wikia.com, a website about horror stories and legends. They planned to run away to the demon's forest mansion after the slaying, the complaint said.

Even after this and many more examples, some will still insist that what we read and view has no affect on us.

My anti gun friends will say " see if guns were available to 12 year olds she would be dead"

Looking at their photo, they strike me as a little "off," and it makes me wonder about their parents.

To which I'd say, how do you know they didn't have a gun available? The guy in Commiefornia had guns available but he chose to use a knife and hammer on his roommates.

Insane...absolutely insane. How does one raise children with the appropriate independence at appropriate ages if you have to worry about stuff like this!

Your right, they didn't use a gun because it was a ritual murder.

my daughter (20) has played one of the computer games, has watched a couple of the others online and says they are creepy and can't imagine wanting to "become a proxy" they are "just evil and wrong". These girls had something wrong with them that started probably way back, my guess is that at some point they either didn't learn or forgot how to tell the difference between real and make-believe. They also again never learned the value of life.

Get ready for the copy cats. Kids and adults alike who need something to blame their own ineptitude or lack of moral direction love stuff like this. Slenderman isn't even an old legend or folktales. It's a completely made up Internet story. If they were this gullible, then they had other issues to begin with. If they really want to blame something blame the parents. I'm sick of hearing parents say they can't control what they're kids see and do. Maybe they should actually try.
