So I thought I would start thread bringing up the topic of carrying at home. Any input is interesting and welcomed. Considering anyone that can own a weapon can carry in their own home I think this could be a helpful topic for everyone -non chl holders as well. Anything involving concealed carry at home, open carry at home, carrying in your apartment, anything relevant.

As many of us know alcohol and firearms do not mix but i was in a heated debate with a friend of mine (a non chl holder) about carrying at home. he was carrying open in a holster and from what i understand it is legal because he is in his own home. The debate started when we cracked open some cold beers and he didn't put his weapon away. What do y'all think about that. opinions. comments? Lets get this goin!

In this case, there's a difference between what's smart and what's legal.

If for whatever reason he would have to use his weapon after having a few, his ability to make sound and logical decision would come under scrutiny by the legal system whether it be in criminal or civil court depending on the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Legal?...likely yes. Good idea?...my magic eight ball says NO.

Now if your friend has enough property and lives in an area where you can discharge firearms, then you are supposed to drink the beer to provide targets for later.

That's why they make a 6 pack, because if you have six shooters and you get rip roarin' drunk, then you can see if you can hit each can from your choice of distance.

If you get one of those 15 packs of Strohs you can empty a Beretta mag, and likely the beer will have been cheaper than the ammo. Unless you re-load...then you should homebrew.

Now whiskey bottles, shot glasses, and NFA guns come to mind. I could go on all night and I don't even drink......anymore.

I called him out on it and we ceased the drinking after the first 12oz curl and the debate started. lol

I took the class recently and I don't remember a sobriety clause in the castle doctrine. Did I miss it?

I carry around the house and when the drinks come out the gun gets put away. It's not that hard. OTOH I don't think I would take issue with someone in their house having a single beer while armed. I'd take issue when it's more than one or something stronger.

So, you're at home one evening celebrating something with enough drinks that you know you're over the limit. Suddenly, somebody starts kicking in your front door. What do you do? Invite him in for a nightcap?

The Jack Daniels bottle is a pretty formidable weapon as are the variety of other items I could use to fight back to my firearms. Its a risk/reward type of thing. Should I keep my gun on me regardless of my level of intoxication so that I can defend myself in the unlikely event my door gets kicked in? I personally would rather disarm than take the chance of making a mistake while drunk.

I don't care what the subject is: Anyone who has the temerity to "CALL ME OUT" in my own home would be immediately escorted to the door.

I can only speak to one side of this issue as no one in my family drinks alcohol, but I'd honestly have to say I've never been to anyone's home where the homeowner open carried while they had visitors. Is this something you guys encounter often?
