I've had a few flights of small groups moving through but mostly local birds so far.

I commonly switch to a revolver with first two chambers keyed up with shot loads for downed dove that want to play hide and seek in the briar patch.

I had my .45 with me hoping I would stumble up on a small hog. I saw a lot of birds and was reminded that I need to practice with my shotgun more.

Never understood dove hunting... how about just shooting trap with a chicken? At least there would be something to eat...

I went yesterday, first time. Lots of birds on the way out there, but our field was probably a bit over hunted. I managed 1/4 of a bird. (that's one bird that 4 people shot)
They're actually quite tasty with bacon... :-)

Don't need to hunt them on my property in West Texas. If you open the back screen door, there will be about 25 inside fighting over the bowl of dog food. Hard to shoo them out and Mrs SDT frowns on bullet holes in the wall if I miss. It is really hard to get shotshells for my Glock 23.

Usually dove hunting is the opportunity to shoot a ton of shells and bring down 1/2 a daily limit.

You guys should try it in Argentina. High volume dove hunting. The only limit is how sore your shoulder gets after shooting 1000 rds. Rent a gun from the guides, otherwise prepare to ruin your shotgun. They donate the ones you don't eat to the locals and the farmers are happy to thin the population because they screw up the crops.

Isn't that how we lost the passenger pigeon? They used to darken the skies and screw up the crops. No more.

Apparently they are not native to the area and have few natural predators...My understanding is that the passenger pigeon was done in more by the destruction of their habitat than the heavy hunting...on the other hand there were a lot of buffalo in the West at one time.
