Sales Pitches During CHL classes

I am curious if I remember hearing wrong during the CHL instructors course. I though we were told that no one can do a sales pitch during a class and that if someone is not a CHL instructor - they were not allowed to present material, grade papers or targets. Also, no guest speakers.
There is a reason I am asking.
Thank you for your input.

Any sales pitches must be totally separate from class time and cannot be part of the curriculum.
Must be an instructor to do any part of the class and grade papers or targets.
Guest instructors must be approved by DPS to do any presentations in class. not sure they really even have a process available any longer though.

Why do you have a presentation in a CHL class?

"Students are free to take a break or listen."
Are they informed of that before the presentation, i.e., sales pitch?
Frankly, I find the idea of a sales presentation of "anything" during a CHL class to be be highly inappropriate.
Given the number of CHL classes I've taken to keep up my CHL status, if I were subjected to a sales pitch I'd be offended.

As do I. It is a condition for instructors at a particular range. The golden rule, they have the gold......, they set the rules.
My Saturday class was interrupted to inform me that the sales person was there. I waited 15 minutes for him to make his presentation before I took the students to the range for qualification.
When we came off the firing line he seemed a little miffed....... I told him he could do his sales pitch while I filled out the students CHL100's. As far as I am concerned, the class was completed except for the paperwork.
I am considering using another range in the future and have only taught 3 classes at this range so far. I have 5 more classes scheduled for October and will be making my decision shortly.
I don't want to throw the range under the bus yet as they are new.

May not fit the bill for extortion legally but it sure does morally.

Tacky is another word that comes to mind.

My CHL course here in TX had a presentation by [Pre-paid legal service]. The guy presenting was also a CHL instructor so I'm not sure that is the same thing as what you are talking about. He did discuss some legal aspects of the curriculum.
I didn't mind it one bit and found it informative.

I'm sure the fox feels the same way about stealing chickens from the hen house.

I know of some instructors who allow sales pitches for [Pre-paid legal service] before or during their classes. I have never done it.
When I took my mandatory NRA class to keep my CHL instructor status, the NRA instructor had a similar [pre-paid legal] presentation before class.

As a student, if someone starts wasting my time pitching me, I want my money back for the class. I paid for the class, not an advertisement, and can go elsewhere.
