A 3 year old boy fell in the jaguar pit and was mauled in an arkansas zoo. I know I am a whole lot more careful with my child than the people in this story (I would not let my son lean on the railing) but if my son fell in the pit, I would do my best to make sure those big cats got nowhere near him. Im sure everyone here would do the same for there own children and/or grandchildren. How would you guys and gals react if you saw someone elses child fall in? Would you engage the jaguars?

Nope.

Nobody knows for sure what they'd do in any given hypothetical situation, but I'd probably do so.

I'd engage. Fire a warning shot. The sound of a gun discharging may be enough to drive off the cats. If not, I'd shoot the cats.

I think this would be me too.

I didn't read the article but I'd jump in and shoot, stab, kick, punch and anything else I had to do to keep my son safe.

You mean like actually paying attention and watching him so this never would've happened in the first place?

I'm only talking about if he somehow managed to fall in despite my paying attention and not letting him near the edge without direct supervision.

The original question was, what would you do if someone else's kid fell in. I think it's safe to assume we all would do something to protect our own.

It depends. If it were a teenager I would let the cats have him.

I would have serious issues with someone doing less than everything possible to protect someone else's kid or their own in that situation.

So how many setting your grandchild or child on top of the railing of the pit housing the -name the dangerous animal- stories are we going to have to read about or see on video before this stupidity stops.

At least assuming I'm armed, yeah, I'd go up against big cats to save someone else's kid, without a second thought.

Same thing if I have some flammable pepper spray and a lighter. I think the gun might be "safer" depending on the wind and how flammable the ground is, but I bet predators are more afraid of fire than strange noises. Plus, I'm not sure how many I'd have to shoot before the others realized what was going on.

I don't know what I'd do if I was completely unarmed, but... Well, I'd do something, I'm just not sure what. I know I couldn't just stand by and watch that happen, though. Cats are typically cautious... maybe just my presence in the pit would buy enough time for the zookeepers to get there.

Congrats to the dad and grandfather, they'll be able to continue to afford a lifetime supply of stupid pills when they get a settlement from the city for endangering the toddlers life.

Like the lady said in the interview, her kids are wild and she let's then climb on stuff. Too many parents let that behavior go on even when they climb on stuff that is not a playground.

My thoughts are that the 3 year old was placed on the rail so he could see. If it's like the one in the video, I don't think a toddler could get up there on his own. And if he did, the guys should have grabbed him. Kids will be kids, uh but not when there's wild animals below...
