(Reuters) - An 18-year-old black man was shot and killed by police at a gas station late on Tuesday in a St. Louis suburb near where unarmed teen Michael Brown was killed by a white officer in August, police and local media said. A live video feed showed the gas station cordoned off by yellow tape and guarded by police, some in helmets and carrying riot shields, with bystanders shouting at them in a tense standoff. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch newspaper reported that some 60 people had gathered at the scene and that at least three people were arrested. Images and video footage showed what appeared to be smoke and loud bangs, although it was not clear whether it was the bystanders or the police that had caused them.

While police have not released the shooting victim’s identity, Toni Martin identified the victim as her son, Antonio Martin, 18. Toni Martin told reporters at the scene that her son was with his girlfriend at the time of the shooting and refuted police claims that her son was carrying a gun. He was trying to get his life back on track after getting expelled from school, she said. The shooting is under investigation, and the deceased man’s handgun was recovered.

His life certainly rests where it belongs. If anyone knows who his daddy is its not been reported.

Momma says her model upstanding citizen son who was raised right didn't have no gun so I expect some more free shopping. I wonder if the pig Al Sharpone is gonna weigh in. Maybe the Racist President will send in the top cop to stir the pot again. How dare Society have the audacity to shoot a black criminal pointing a gun at them or robbing a store or assaulting a Citizen hired by Society to Police the streets.

I completely missed that.

I'm sure he was a good boy... - it was probably society's fault that made the juvenile point a weapon at the nasty symbol of law and order.

Watch the video, at 1:37 you can see the man on the left of the police car raise his arm as you would point a handgun - it is too far away to see what is in his hand, but clearly the man is not running away or raising arms as in "I give up".

Make your own conclusions, but for me I think it is pretty obvious what happened.

If they make a big deal out of this one they're going to lose even more support from reasonable people. I believe the Eric Garner case was excessive force, but Trayvon Martin and Michael Brown both died due to the inevitability of the commission of crimes catching up to you. Now this guy points a gun at police? What do you expect the cop to do? Politely ask him to put it down? If someone points a gun at me, I will shoot him. I don't care how old he is, what color he is or what ethnicity he is. To expect a cop to do any less is ridiculous. Mama says he was getting his life together and didn't carry a gun? Unfortunately for her, his gun was recovered at the scene.

Yes, he was a good kid. He was probably expelled from school for being too good a kid.

Thanks, Beiruty. I've since found out it was a Highpoint C9. Martin actually pulled the trigger, but the gun didn't fire. Highpoint uses the firing pin to eject spent casings, and it sometimes gets bent.
