This happened last week. Looks like a 1911 in the body cam video.

"Oklahoma police released a video Friday from the body camera of a cop who fatally shot a suspect earlier this month. Muskogee Officer Chansey McMillin, responding to a domestic abuse complaint, approached 21-year-old Terrance Walker outside the Old Agency Baptist Church on Jan. 17, according to local media."

Here is the unedited body cam video from the time he rolls up until he leaves the scene.
Upon initial viewing, you see the suspect fleeing, drop an object, pick it up with his right hand, then turn to run away when he is shot in the back. I've read comments from people on social media outlets, who say the suspect was reaching for his cell phone. In the video, however, his cellphone is clearly still in his left hand when they tend to his body. They then recover a loaded, cocked pistol from under his body. If you watch carefully, while running, he drops the pistol, picks it up with his right hand, points in the officer's direction, and then turns away as the officer fires his shots. There was also an approaching car that the suspect could have tried to engage, putting its occupants in harms way had the officer hesitated. This is a great reminder of how fast stuff like this happens. Glad the officer went home that day.

As far as any protests, from what I heard, the pastor on the scene, as well as the witnesses were really shaken, as they initially believed the officer shot the suspect in the back as he ran away. Upon hearing about the gun, everyone calmed down and recognized the officer did what he had to do. You can hear the pastor on the video. Before the officer arrived, the suspect apparently brandished his weapon and made death threats to his (ex?) girlfriend. The pastor was the one who called the police.

The police officer is a decorated combat veteran.

The raw video clearly shows that he shot im as he was fleeing (in the back if you will) but it also, just as clearly, shows that what he dropped after trying to pull it from his jacket pocket, is a gun, and that he picks it up and points it, at least generally, in the direction of the officer.

I had the feeling, from looping that part of the video several times, that he may actually have tried to fire. Makes me wonder if the safety was on and he didn't know how to take it off.

And also in the direction of innocent bystanders. There were quite a few people in the parking lot when the chase started, and there is a car full of people pulling up precisely at the wrong time.

And that as they say in Muskogee, OK is how you deal with that. Any questions?
