Alleged Chicago Police Interrogation Torture / Black Site

So there is a warehouse in Chicago's west side that Chicago Police have allegedly been using like a CIA black site. In a lot of ways, I hope this is not true. If it is true, I hope the people responsible are brought to justice. This cannot be swept under the rug.

Chicago PD has already issued a statement in response to the article,
“CPD [Chicago police department] abides by all laws, rules and guidelines pertaining to any interviews of suspects or witnesses, at Homan Square or any other CPD facility. If lawyers have a client detained at Homan Square, just like any other facility, they are allowed to speak to and visit them. It also houses CPD’s Evidence Recovered Property Section, where the public is able to claim inventoried property,”

I would think this would be fairly easy to prove. The article seems to be very thorough in its investigation, to which I find alarming.
Alleged police practices at Homan Square, according to those familiar with the facility who spoke out to the Guardian after its investigation into Chicago police abuse, include:

Keeping arrestees out of official booking databases.
Beating by police, resulting in head wounds.
Shackling for prolonged periods.
Denying attorneys access to the “secure” facility.
Holding people without legal counsel for between 12 and 24 hours, including people as young as 15.
At least one man was found unresponsive in a Homan Square “interview room” and later pronounced dead.

That only happens sometimes and only if it's Hank Voight and his team.

I usually take the Guardian about as seriously as my toilet paper but I read this last night and they did seem to do some actual work on this one. Quite a few lawyers for sources and other information.

My main thought while reading this was "it is Chicago so I'm not surprised" and sadly I'm still not surprised.

If it is factual then some heads need to roll!

It appears that this is a mission of truth for a Community Organizer to investigate.

Rahm Emanuel is being challenged for his job by an even worse socialist.

I wonder if his challenger has helped this story come to light...?

My son is in Chicago and being a college student has had more than one encounter with the police. To my surprise in each encounter their conduct was professional, and more to the point, they went out of their way to make sure he got home safely. In one instance they called a cab and ordered a reluctant cab driver to take him home. In another, where he'd been punched by someone on the street, they personally drove him to the university clinic and made sure he was alright. I'm not going to say that social status had nothing to do with it but I think even in a place like Chicago, there's a lot of randomness possible in such interactions, and sometimes a variety of factors lead to unfortunate results for the citizen, and sometimes the outcome is very positive.

However, I do tend to believe what the article claims. It is often the case with things like this that a minority of the organization is involved and a lot of people in the organization don't even know it's happening.

Maybe they didn't want all the drug dealers and gang bangers to know where they were storing their evidence. :leaving

The Constitution and Rule of Law is more what you'd call guidelines than actual rules.
