Welcome aboard!
I've got a 642 and it goes EVERYWHERE with me.
Not a tackdriver, but with a little practice will definitely get the job done.
I recommend it
Where in East Texas are you?

I have the 340PD and a 642. I just traded one of our moderators for the 642. I am really enjoying it. I actually think I like the 642 a little better than the 340PD.

You'll be very happy with the 642. It serves it's specific purpose very well.

JLaw, you are so weird. hahahahaha

I have a SP101 Ruger I carry now when it's T-shirt time but I agree the 642 is a good one. In fact my brother has a brand new one for sale.

Dittos on 642. Used it on my CHL Instructor qualification and had no problem getting the required 90% score.

My wife has a 642 and I have a 442. Great little ccw's but not fun range guns (IMO). They are easy to carry and will get the job done. They are especially good carry guns in the warmer summer months. Easy to carry in a pocket holster in shorts or jeans. We fire ours just often enough to be somewhat proficient for S.D.
I think they are a great bargain since they hold their resale so well. It is hard to find a used one around here (Frisco, Tx). When looking to buy ours we looked at gun shows, gun shops and online but didn't find any used ones. We finally went ahead and bought new ones. I am confident that if I should, for some reason, have to sell ours it should not be a major problem and should return most of the money invested in them.
I started another thread along these lines at
http://www.thefiringline.com/forums/sho ... p?t=252567 with a lot of interesting responses. My forum name is "TxPhantom" on that and most other forums.
Go for it. Get a J frame of some kind you will like it.

So that's what a moderator is going for, these days.
