In the process of filing my e-form 1 for a suppressor. Do I need to have the Make and Ser# filled out on the Schedule A, Record of Funds and Assignment of Interest prior to uploading or leave these blank until I manufactor the suppressor?

You can't e-file a form 1 for a suppressor (most of the time). All factory made suppressors are Form 4, and BATFE hasn't gotten efiling set up for form 4 yet.

The rule of thumb is, if you are building it, then it is a form 1, and if you are buying something someone else built, then it is a form 4 - hence a form 1 to "register" your lower for an SBR build, and the form 4 for the suppressor for that SBR.

Now, that said, go to the SD Tactical website. There, you can buy all the parts you need to build your own suppressor, and you don't have to file anything until the point at which you're ready to drill out the centers of your baffles. You invent your own serial number which you will later engrave onto the tube of the completed suppressor. Once you've drilled the baffles, you're in constructive possession, and you'd better already have the stamp. Total cost for the suppressor is around $100, plus the $200 for the stamp.

TAM pretty much covered it. Hoping that e-file Form 4s will be back up in Q3.

I think the OP realizes all this, as he specifically stated he's planning on manufacturing the suppressor.

Yes- I am manufacturing a suppressor using parts from SD Tactical.
I assigned a serial number and am ready to upload my trust.
This is my first form 1 so I dont want to make any mistakes and have it rejected.

Thanks for your feedback TAM. I am sure I will have more questions down the road for you.

No problem. I'm actually not the expert..... my son is. He works for a Class III manufacturer/dealer. They transfer suppressors, SBRs, and the occasional automatic and select-fire firearms, and my son is pretty familiar with all the paperwork. I just ask him questions when I need to know something. I've only filed one form so far - the form 4 I sent in last week.

When you put in the manufacturer you need to switch it to manufacturer code and input FMI
also
For model I put in "N/A" from the drop down list.... This way the model number is already in the ATF system otherwise it throws a flag and says "it may take longer to process...."
Thats of the form 1 but I was referring to the Trust Schedule A.
I believe I will go ahead and fill out the Shedule A with the info that will be engraved.

AndyC wrote:On the Schedule A, all I have in there is the serial-number of the dollar bill which my trust owns. From what I've read, we don't actually have the suppressors yet - so it can't be in the trust before we get permission to make them.

Form 1 now paid & submitted for a suppressor - the wait begins.
Thanks Andy- That helps alot.
Do you plan on a Mag light conversion or machine your own?
I have been looking at SD Tacticals hardware.
