Good thing the driver had a dashcam. It's obvious the cop tries to spin the story so he can justify his bully tactics. Hope he is disciplined forthwith.

If a citizen had threatened to shoot a cop in the head, he would have been arrested immediately. A police officer is no different - I think he needs to lose his freedom and pension. Any officer who does such things is a loose cannon.

My other thought is that a 30 year veteran detective who runs around making traffic stops at night in a personal vehicle out of uniform must have a death wish. The Chief needs to put him back on a uniformed patrol beat before he stops the wrong individual.

Thug is the right word. Lucky thug might be more appropriate.

I don't know what I would have done. My wife in the same situation might have given him a Dodge Ram grill smile. Screaming and threatening to shoot her, he would have never gotten that close in the dark. Too many incidents of fake cops.

I dont like this guy at all. He needs to go.

After threatening my life, I would of tried my best to get away and if that wasnt not an option, I would be in jail waiting for a trial. Too many police impersonaters. No uniform, no light bar, there is no way of really knowing if he was really a LEO. Off duty police with nothing but a badge to identify themselves should not be doing traffic stops, especially not in this manner. He is lucky he didnt get ran over.

I'm thinking that a citizen has every right (and would be very wise) to assume an officer out of uniform in a civilian vehicle is illegitimate and respond accordingly, which ideally would be to not stop or drive off when approached, call 911, and report a suspected police imposter.

The detective acting like a thug is one consideration.

What about the uniformed guy acting more than a little over the top?

What's his major malfunction?

I'm sure that LEO higher ups "must' know of his actions...and yet, it must be O.K. with them.

I am pro-LEO, but when I see this sort of thing, I despair...

Both videos in this thread are the same guy. He has quite a history.

I haven't seen any stats so maybe my perception is off, but it sure seems to me like the most abusive cops are almost always inhabitants of Democrat run liberal utopias.

Well, he's one rotten apple in what I hope is a barrel full of good apples...though I'm hard pressed to believe his behavior is unknown to his colleagues.

I guess in an LEO culture, blowing the whistle on a fellow rotten LEO, while not completely unheard of, is something most LEO's are loath to do.

So, thug cop behavior continues at the peril of citizens.

So what is the law about traffic stops in Texas regarding unmarked cars and officers out of uniform? I thought it used to be the law that they could not make traffic stops in unmarked cars or out of uniform, but I thought I heard that was changed a while back. Not sure what the rules are now.

Looking at that video, I cannot imagine stopping just because some dude in boxers and a wife beater t-shirt flashes a badge. I am going to get clear of the area and call 911. Most especially when the dude is acting that agressively.

One problem with that is a cop like this guy might just unload a mag into your vehicle. I cringed when I saw the driver backing up....that action, if this officer had emptied his mag into the guy's vehicle, could well have had this officer claiming the driver was trying to run him over, and shot in self-defense. If you get shot dead then whatever can be used after the fact to justify the shooting will be. In the case of someone with a CHL who is armed, it will turn out that you were stopped because you were waving your gun around, not for some traffic violation.

This incident is analogous to a SWAT raid on the wrong residence. You may not know if you're dealing with home invaders or a police impersonator, but if you choose the wrong answer you're going to get fried. Calling 911 is good and might resolve the situation if communication gets established between 911 and the dude in boxers and the wife-beater. In the end I think we're just fried if we happen to run into the wrong cop under the wrong circumstances. Women are even more at risk and more vulnerable to cop impersonators. But after all, if it's not a real cop and you end up having to defend yourself you're probably going to be in the clear. It's when you have to defend yourself and it turns out it really was a cop that you're going to be in trouble pretty much no matter what you do.
