Given the information in the article the trooper could have ran plates and should have been alerted to who he was dealing with???

It depends. Most of the time they do run the plates...they have computers in their patrol cars. A vehicle's license plate will not send up a flag unless the vehicle itself is stolen or entered into the system for a reason. Having said that, more accurately the plates themselves will result in an alert or flag rather than the vehicle itself since plates can be placed on a different vehicle. If the plates did not result in an alert then there was nothing to notify the officer of any real danger. The scene looked like someone needing assistance no doubt.

It was an ambush to kill a Police Officer as simple as that. That scum should be given the right justice.

Sick evil monster needs a slow painful death. Sometimes Society should go down to their level and exact some highly public Justice. One shotgun blast to the face with light #9 birdshot every Friday night sounds about right. 80 yards. 79 yards. 78 yards. 77 yards...
