This was on my facebook page, so I think I can show the post without linking to it. The Deputy is not asking for a boycott, that was my idea.

"My name is Barry Stanley and I am a licensed peace officer in the State of Texas. I have been a Deputy Sheriff in Harris County Texas for 25 years.

On Friday, Sept. 25th, 2015, I visited your establishment in Houston, TX to see Blues Traveler.Upon my attempt to enter through security, I identified myself as a police officer and showed my badge and my I.D., and let the floor manager know that I was carrying my weapon.

I was told that I could not enter with my weapon. I explained that I was a licensed peace officer with the State of Texas, and I am required to carry my weapon with me, again I was refused. This conversation went on for a few minutes. I told the manager that had I not been with my wife and 4 other friends, I would demand my money back and leave.

I have never been so insulted in my whole career of Law Enforcement. I am allowed to carry my weapon in all sporting events and airports after proper identification is made. Yet, I was unable to carry my weapon in your establishment.

I believe this policy is anti-police. I had to return to my vehicle and disarm myself to return to the facility.

I called and left a message for General Manager Will Hodgson, 832-667-7750,(willhodgson@livenation.com) and as of today, 09-27-2015, I have not received a call back.

I stated to the floor manager that I was insulted by this, and I further stated that officers were being assassinated here in Harris County (Deputy Darren Goforth, assassinated 08-28-215). I also stated that I felt unsafe not having my weapon due to these recent events.

I believe your policy should be changed, and you should allow officers to carry their weapon inside your establishments.

So he had to do like the rest of us citizens. Sorry feel no sorrow.

I support LEOs, but IMHO the House of Blues has the right to not allow entry. It is a matter of property rights.

Being an LEO is no more a protected class than being a CHLer.

Why should others boycott if he didn't feel strongly enough about it to leave himself? I understand he had family and money invested, but I don't think he can cry about it now. I also don't feel they are anti law enforcement, maybe anti gun, but he wasn't excluded from attending simply because he was a LEO.

I see no reason to boycott but I might suggest the Deputy file a report

They have the right to not allow him to enter, but if he somehow did and was discovered he could not be prosecuted. Unlike us peons. But of course Texas will never override private property rights...except for LEO, Special Agents, Peace Officers, Deputies, etc....

I'm on the deputy's side.

I want more armed LEO's where ever I go.

Yep.

I have to agree with the LEO. Apparently his department, as do most, require him to carry off duty and he should be able to.
However, it is a property owners right to refuse service. Not a smart move IMHO, but still their right.
Question is, since the LEO was refused entry, and something happened that he could have prevented, could they be held liable? Little different than a CHL being denied entry.

Yea, don't feel especially sorry for him.

I don't like anyone who has been certified to carry being denied. However, if the venue can legally prevent you from carrying.....a LEO is no different than any one else.

Businesses can lose their TABC license if they allow weapons on the premises. Don't blame the House of Blues, blame the state laws.

Private property...they have the right to say yes or no. Sporting events and airports are not privately owned venues. He might want to take a look at the recent incident where a Temple TX officer, who was attending a CLEAT convention in El Paso, and had been drinking, fired off his weapon in a hotel hospitality ballroom after sexually harassing and touching a female bartender . Just because he's an LEO doesn't guarantee his behavior in a bar.
