Any advice on holsters/safes/storage of handguns while in your car?

I usually carry on body, of course, but I'm having a bit of an issue finding a convenient/secure way to store or transport handguns in my car. For instance, when I'm at work (work in a hospital and cannot carry), I don't like just leaving my gun in the glove compartment. Or when I have to go into an area where firearms are prohibited by law.

I'd like a safe storage area that isn't trunk/glove box. I'd also maybe like a comfortable, within-reach way to stash a handgun while on long roadtrips when having the gun concealed on-body isn't convenient or comfortable. I currently sometimes slide the Glock 26 between the center console and the passenger seat (still in Alien Gear holster), and cover it with a towel or newspaper or something...and hope I notice if the cover slips off.

What do you guys use in the car?

Also, do you know how/if open carry law will change the requirement to have guns in vehicles always concealed?

NV300 Gun Vault combo cabled lock box. Will prevent a break-in grab and run, but with some time and a good screwdriver won't make much difference. Is it perfect? No. But better than nothing or glove box IMO.

I plan on purchasing a small fire safe that will accommodate my G17 and bolt it inside the tool box of my truck.
Use blind head bolts to the outside so it cannot be unbolted unless it is un-locked and open. Not the best solution
but should work. You could bold it in the truck of your car. Just my take on it.

In my truck, I lock it under the back seat when I *have* to leave it in the vehicle. It's a keyed lock at least.

We have the Center of Mass gun lockers in our vehicles and are all keyed for the same key.

I too use a Center of Mass lock box.

I prefer the combination lock rather than a key that could get lost, so that's what I got.

For an additional $3.00, I bought the extra cable when we use our car vs. the truck.

If you have one of the vehicles they fit, you can''t go wrong with a Console Vault.

I spent 5 minutes installing one in my Dodge pickup and have never regretted it. They are $pendy, but well worth it for securing any small valuables.

:iagree: +1 on the Console Vault products. As Pawpaw stated, they are pricey but easy to install and effective.

Have a nano vault under hide under the seat. Not the best but will stop the usual smash and run person and is easily movable between vehicles. As an emergency, if nothing else is available, keep some trash on one of the floor boards. Stash the gun in one of the fast food bags. Again not that secure but might be of some help.

I have a Stackable mini-vault in my van (2011 Chrysler Town and Country with Hide-a-Seat 2nd row seats)... the seats are normally in the UP position and the vault goes in the hole behind the driver's seat and it's chained to a seat post. It's an electronic lock with a key backup. Has done a pretty good job for me though never tested in an actual break-in.
