A disturbing trend of one-punch attacks has left three people dead in Vancouver.

Police say at least ten people this year have fallen victim to the attacks that seem to be alcohol fueled and random.

At a news conference Thursday, Vancouver police spokesman Constable Brian Montague said the victims fell to the ground unconscious after being struck once in the head.

Among those how died is a 60-year-old man who was punched in front of a bar on a downtown street in August, the National Post reports.
Yeah, those "how" died is another sample of the great editing that takes place in modern "journalism." So much for "unarmed" attackers. Three dead and at least one with life altering injuries. That's a 30% death rate compared to a 20% death rate from being shot with a handgun. Granted, the comparison isn't statistically valid, but it is a good indication of how lethal a fist can be.

Often the person who strikes first will win an empty-hand altercation. This is why awareness is so critical -- if an attacker knows what they're doing, the first punch causes damage which limits the victim's ability to put up an effective defense.

Google one punch kill

It's been going on for a long, long time. In Australia it became such a problem that they started an organization to get the word out about how dangerous it was.

I know a punch can be dangerous. The persons head hitting the ground is usually the cause of death.

For those if you who did not get it, my comment was poking fun at the writers "how" usage.
