We traveled to another state this week. Usually I carry my EDC in an OWB pancake holster, on jeans that fit, with an un-ticket t-shirt.

Well.....I left my pancake holster at home, and have had to carry IWB...and it was a booger-bear. I can tell you, OWB and (come 1/1) not worrying about exposure is the only way to go.

So, like many, I'm happy OC is here (1/1), and I may/may not OC, but I am 100% sure that the "worry" being gone about a t-shirt un-tucking/exposure will give me huge peace of mind.

I agree that OC is far more comfortable than IWB; but openly displaying a firearm on the grounds of my apartment is a violation of my lease so I'll have to continue to carry concealed.

Are you in texas? Fairly certain they cant legally tell you that you cant display a firearm going from your car to your apt. Thats a common area.

I learned recently that an apartment complex (landlord) cannot restrict keeping guns inside your apartment, I would think that it would go for the property leading to and from your vehicle as well. Clubhouses/offices are a different story however.

If you ever decide you want to break your lease, all you have to do is openly carry a rifle to your car parked in front of the office.

I disagree. The MPA covers relief from UCW to or from the vehicle but 30.06 could still apply. I would think it would need to be in a locked container so that it is not on or about your person if the parking lot was 30.06 posted.something to think about.

I live in Houston. I discussed this issue with my manager. According to her, they use the standard lease put out by the Texas Apartment Association. I'll quote the relevant statement: "discharging a firearm in the apartment community or displaying or possessing a gun, knife, or other weapon in the common area in a way that may alarm others." This statement is part of the Prohibited Conduct paragraph. She said I may have a gun in my apartment; but carrying it openly outside my apartment would be a violation of my lease. The way I read the lease it would not prohibit me from carrying concealed outside my apartment since carrying concealed is hardly going to alarm others. That is what I have been doing and will continue to do so. If you live in an apartment in Texas you probably have the same statement in your lease since this is a standard lease used by all apartments who belong to the Texas Apartment Association. I'm not a lawyer and I don't know what the legal limitations are on this.

HOA's and apartment complexes can't tell you that you can't carry, however they can tell you how you can carry. ie, concealed or not. Thus, many HOA's are posting 30.07's

Here's my question then completely unrelated to open carry. If I live in an apartment, and want to go hunting this weekend, how am I supposed to get the rifle from my apartment to my car? Stick it down my pants leg? Between apartments and HOA, they are all a load of crap, especially the HOA's. I don't understand how someone else can tell me what to do with the property I own. Thankfully I don't live in an HOA zone but my dad does and those folks are the devil.

Try a rifle case (available at any number of local stores). This isn't complicated.

Seriously. A rifle case is obvious. That wasn't my point. They should not be prohibited from moving a firearm openly from their place of residence to their vehicle. Texas law says they can legally do so, so why is an apartment complex saying they can't? That's the point.
