This is too funny. Since the AG removed reciprocity, the legislature has decided to remove his authority to decide reciprocity. And since the Governor is so anti-gun, they're also thinking about removing his protection detail. The logic is, if he's so afraid of guns, we ought not to surround him with them.

I'll bet the Governor would veto any legislation that denies him armed protection from the people that elected him.

I applaud the VA state legislature for taking direct action to hold the AG and governor accountable for their thugish behavior on this issue.

This type of response needs to happen every time an elected official walks all over the rights of the citizens he is sworn to protect.

This is a bill in the VA legislature. Last I checked, bills had to be signed by the governor. I'm really sure the governor is going to sign a bill that removes his protective detail. I guess the legislature could override the veto, but if they have enough votes to override a veto, presumably they'd also have enough votes to override a veto of some legislation that could actually fix the reciprocity problem (which this bill is supposedly trying to coax the governor into doing). For example, the VA legislature could pass a bill that recognizes all out-of-state licenses, like many other states do.

This bill gets the bill's author in the news and provides pro-gun people with a little chuckle, but does absolutely nothing to actually fix the problem.

The bill overrides the AG's authority to grant or rescind reciprocity. The suggestion to remove the Governor's protective detail, if it's offered up, would be a separate bill.

Virginia has a veto proof House but not a veto proof Senate.
