The question has come up from time to time.. " I don't think" I(you) should carry while riding what if you fall, the gun will hurt you.
Perhaps, nothing's guaranteed in life..


But my Post crash opinion... No, carrying a gun on your hip, in a proper holster, at the 3:33 is not inherently dangerous in a crash.


High Sided at 60-70 MPH, drilled to the ground,,while I was wearing all the gear.. the gun and holster, and knife saved me some skin as well.





Few hours after being admitted to the ER, released with 4 broken ribs and some minor rash and contusions, checking out the accident site on way home.


So three points..
No brusing on hip at 3:30 from gun impact,,and yes the gun impacted the ground.
Gun was not retained in holster... need to think about that one... had I needed it from a supine position in the ditch, it was a dozen feet away from me in the road.
Wear your gear if you ride.. you DO NOT control the crash, nor how much skill you will need to make it home... I walk away from a 70mph high side crash (arguably one of the hardest hitting types) with few injuries..thanks to not only owning great gear...but wearing it, rain, shine, Texas Summer, or just a quick trip down the road

How did the gun fare? I didn't see a picture of it. Looks like the knife saved you some road-rubbin'.

Went into the shop and looked at the bike, first time...made me sick.

Ummm no awake and Im told, incharge. Seems I was giving orders to the "helpers" to secure the scene and make it safe BEFORE attending to me, as well as instruction who to call, where is my bike, no your NOT cutting off my boots and belt..

38 years of riding, racing and crashing motorcycles (mostly off road.. this and a crash in 1986 are my only street crashes in 38 years)
Racing off road trucks....
I've been in a few accidents and been in charge at a lot more ..so I get a bit.... authoritative even when supine it seems.... or so i was told

Glad to see you mostly OK after that. When I rode a bike, a buddy of mine told me there are 2 types of bike riders... Those that have laid one down and those that will. A few weeks later I did exactly that...not a collision but some unseen deep gravel in a turn and went down doing about 35mph. I looked at my gloves, jeans, long sleeve shirt, and helmet and was very glad to have been wearing all of them. The gloves were shredded but my hands had only minor injuries...did cost me $400 in parts to fix the bike though.

Thanks for posting this and sharing... I always shake my head at people riding without gear...its just a matter of time before they lay it down and learn the hard way.
