This was unexpected.
Do you think it means anything?
The case involved being convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence loose 2nd amendment rights for a lifetime.

Too bad there's no video at SCOTUS. I would have liked to have seen the faces of everyone else in the courtroom.

"... Thomas then caught her by surprise, asking whether the violation of any other law "suspends a constitutional right...."
A very intelligent and admirable question.

I wonder if Justice Scalia's death caused Justice Thomas to finally speak up.

Think he'll take up Scalia's mantle ? (sadly I have to admin that I don't know much about Thomas or his voting record)

I think it means that Justice Thomas sees it as his mission to step up and fulfill Scalia's role. The article that I read earlier today about this noted that when Scalia was alive, Thomas always sat to his right. They were close friends, and apparently, Thomas was one of three people invited to offer a prayer at Scalia's funeral. So I suspect that he views himself as someone of a keeper of the flame, now that Scalia has passed.

That's my interpretation as well. With the passing of Justice Scalia, to me this signals that Justice Thomas will step in and take the lead for the Constitutional rights of American Citizens.
His vote has always been solid, but the concurring / dissenting opinions were almost always Justice Scalia's spectrum, as well as the verbal exchanges that Justice Scalia was famous for.
