It is that time of the month again to buy another gun and I am thinking about a few and just want some input as to what your thoughts are and actual hands on experience , I have looked at some reviews on the web but there are so many that I just can’t believe are true . Has anyone had feed issues with any of the small frame 1911’s ? That’s the main problem I see people having .
#1 – Kimber ultra carry 2
#2 – Sig P224 Extreme
#3- Dan Wesson ECO
Now I have a shield and fns 9c that I carry at different times and love how light they are and easy to conceal , I really have no reason to get another one except for the fact I want one and have been adding about a gun every other month to my collection .
I have also been thinking about a H and K compact but really don’t want another plastic gun I know they are just as reliable as an all metal frame but I think they just have a better appearance in general.
The other thing I am going to have to get is a new safe because I don’t think I will have the room for anymore and was thinking about getting a small one to put some of them in and a small amount of ammo , I really need to just make a ammo storage and be done with it and so I have a place to hide it from my wife I know no one does that right .

Of the pistols you have listed, I would go with the Dan Wesson.

I have two DW 1911s. The fit, finish, & quality is top notch. The next step up the 1911 ladder would be a Wilson Combat or Baer.

Be very careful in choosing an H&K. I've had two people in handgun classes that got cut up like they had been sliced with a fillet knife. I don't recall the model, but it was far too easy to get hour right thumb high enough for the slide to cut it. I don't mean a scrape or a minor cut, both were major cuts that a regular band-aid wouldn't stop bleeding.

Be sure to "test fit" any H&K to make sure it is the gun for you, BTW, neither of these two guys had lumberjack hands, but they weren't small either.

I'd be curious how that happened. There is some issue with righties having their thumb against the slide release on some models and various other problems.

I have had 4 HK pistols, no problem. Of course, I'm a lefty.

There are various youtubes about proper grip which, it seems like, would avoid any such problems no matter what make or model you had. One, by Todd Jarrett, I think, comes to mind.

I think most instructors and students have no clue how to hold a gun , just like the one i took mine from was showing everyone the proper way to hold and i just shook my head , the way he was showing yeah i could see how you would get your thumb caught in the slide .

I also would love to get the kimber but for that price I'm not excited about the reliability issues that seem rampant on the interweb.

The wife and I have three inch Kimbers(45acp) and have not had any problems with them. That being said she just got a Rock Island three inch in 9mm and it shoots like a charm at less cost for the gun.

I think you'll find that Rock Island's barrel is 3.5", true Officer's size.

Dan Wesson....I have a H & K compact, has never refused to eat any type of ammo.....no hiccups.

You are right Pawpaw, my brain must have taken a short vacation.

H&K's are solid. Never had any issues with any model I've owned. Dan Wesson would be at the top right now for me personally.

I have an STI Escort, which is very similar to the Kimber. I love it, but do have to admit that I have had some feed issues with it. I believe those problems were actually magazine issues and seem to be resolved now. Unfortunately, I discovered a different unrelated problem with it, so it's currently back at STI for that.

But I'll tell you how bad it is. I just bought another short-barrel, compact, aluminum frame 1911. A new Colt Defender. I know - crazy, right? I know a lot of people are probably saying "idiot", but I just love those officer size 1911's, and I'm confident (so far) that they will work for me.
