Local Paper Advocates Australian Gun Control

Up at 6 am, feed the dogs, get the local paper, prepare my cereal, then read that the op-ed of the local paper is proposing Australian gun control; yes, it is a liberal paper in the middle of a very republican county.
My instinct is that the op-ed probably left out some facts, turns out he/she did. The article implies that Australia only bans AR type rifles. Of course that is not correct, they ban almost everything.
Here is the linkto the op-ed:

https://shar.es/1lamMD

From Gunpolicy.org
"In Australia, civilians are not allowed to possess automatic and semi-automatic firearms, self-loading and pump action shotguns, handguns with a calibre in excess of .38in with only narrow exemptions, semi-automatic handguns with a barrel length less than 120mm, and revolvers with a barrel length less than 100mm"

Did some more internet search, found this article from about a year ago:

http://thefederalist.com/2015/06/25/the ... 4e4.mailto

So, put the two together and the editor does not realize he is advocating for civil war. Or maybe he is, don't know for sure.
Will be writing a response to the paper, they do usually print them if it's not vulgar.

I find it ironic they do not promote Mexican style gun control where only the criminals possess guns and the drug lords run the country assassinating politicians and police.

Bring this up in your next debate with an anti

Huh. Tempting to reply to them. I wonder if they would publish an opposing view point on their paper?

My local paper seems to "borrow" editorials from other papers such as Bloomberg News. They usually credit them at the bottom of the piece. This sounds like it might be one of those. Of course it still reflects the opinion of your local editorial board. The only newspaper that I found without the left wing bias is The Wall Street Journal.

I propose every journalist must obtain a permit to publish (PTP), they must submit for a background check and answer questions on their views, each story or article needs to be submitted for review prior to publication, all written articles must be written on a typewriter as no journalist needs to have access to a computer, only the government needs those!

Great idea...

How about next we suggest adopting "Syrian style homosexual policy"... you know, where they stone them to death or throw them off of a tall building.

How about we take on "Chinese style government protests"... you know, where the murder people for speaking out against the government.

How about we jump on "Saudi Arabian Theft Prevention Policies"... you know, where the cut your hand off.

Let's do all of this, because it is all about as good of an idea as Australian style gun control is.

Do these people not get it? There are 300 million guns in this country. This is NOT Australia.

Consider IF the guberment COULD do this right and get 98% of all the guns (BTW what has the guberment done correctly YET)
That would leave 6,000,000 guns on the street. And WHO do you think will have those guns? Talk about going back to the wild west.

BTW The best estimate I have heard is 1.15 gun/person which brings the total to 380,000,000. But with these numbers, who's counting?

Every time someone advocates completely banning guns in America, I point out drugs. Heroin, ecstasy, PCP, LSD, cocaine, etc are all illegal. Most of them are highly illegal, and carry stiff penalties for getting caught with very much of them at all. So clearly there aren't any illegal drugs in America, right? We have been waging war on drugs for what, 35 years? Billions, and that's billions with a B, of taxpayers' dollars have been spent waging this war. We have a whole branch of law enforcement just for fighting this war. Guess what?

There are still tons of drugs on our streets. It is still easy for criminals to get drugs. Laws have done exactly nothing to change this.

The government can't even handle a bunch of junkies. You really think they will be able to keep guns out of the hands of criminals, much less terrorists?

What did completely banning alcohol do for America? Created organized crime that continues to flourish today.
