Current Houston turn-around time?

Hello all,

I recently mailed out everything to DPS on the 17th and they received it on the 18th. I already had a PIN# prior to mailing everything back. Was just wondering how long the wait has been from people in the Houston area. Its only been a couple days and it feels like forever!

I'm curious about this topic as well! Hopefully, living in America's 4th largest city does not mean that our applications get backlogged...

What is your status on DPS website?

Does your status still show "Packet Mailed to Applicant"?

yeah hopefully, I've talked to a couple people and they said the wait was around 45 days, but that was many months ago.

Glock19: my status has not changed either, when did you mail everything?

Received my plastic on June 25th and I live in Houston.

46 days from receipt of application in Austin to "Application Completed - license issued or certificate active" on website. Plastic arrived in the mailbox about four days later.

My prior residences were out of state, though, so that may have extended the time, I don't know.

Keep the faith -- it will happen. ;-)

Thanks for the responses, Drifter and Elwood, I too had been curious about this issue. I lived in Michigan for one year during the last five year period, thus I wonder how long my CHL application will take to be approved.

I have to admit that I still have trouble grasping why a federal background check to buy/transfer a gun takes 10 minutes tops over the phone, but the DPS/CHL staff takes 45-60 days to accomplish the same task. :???:

My prior residences were in California, so I did sweat what kind of response times LA and San Mateo Counties might consume, given attitudes in the Land of Fruits and Nuts.

I saw much shorter times while I was waiting for mine, but, all in all, I guess I was within or a bit below the average wait.

Good deal, seeing as how some folks have waited 90+ days for DPS/CHL to get their applications squared-away, I guess I'd settle for a relatively-short 46-day wait.

I mailed mine Sunday July 15 and as of today no change in status. Should be in Austin now, not sure when they flip the status.
