I'm not sure if there's a legal definition of "professional sporting event", but in my mind this one wouldn't be one. From the NAGA website they have categories from Novice, Beginner, up to Black BeLtd. Definitely looks like a professionally -run event, but it's for the lay person rather than someone who earns a living off of prize winnings and corporate sponsorships.

:iagree: From their website FAQ:
2. Does NAGA have a division for me?
Yes we do. NAGA has divisions for all ages and all skill levels. NAGA has had Expert level 6 years old compete and Novice level 50 year olds compete.
We have a division for everyone. For more information, click the red DIVISIONS tab located on the page of the event you are interested in.

Given that competitors pay to participate in the tournament, and that no direct monetary prizes are awarded, this is an amateur tournament by definition.

I don't think the snowflakes like the word "competing" either.
