Firemen and Emergency Services Personel

I'm not sure if this is an appropriate forum to post the question, so if not I'm sure it will be either moved or deleted..... but
In another thread (ammo "cooking off") there were several clues to suggest that there may be just a few folks here in the various emergency services. Several years ago I did a pretty good stint as a volunteer fireman/ambulance/rescue, and a few years in paid professional fire and ambulance service. For the last 2-1/2 years I have been commissioner on our county Emergency Services District (Treasurer for the last year). Even though there were quite a few years between my active participation in emergency services and my being appointed to the county ESD, I never lost my appreciation for the folks on the every day front lines.
How many of you guys are in the emergency services - fire, para-medic, rescue, etc., as professionals or as volunteers (equally important in my opinion)?

I have a son who started as a volunteer EMT in League City about 10 years ago. He went on to get his paramedic certification in TX, met an Aussie and married her.
Moved to Australia as an "AMBO" Ambulance Officer. He now is pursuing his Phd., still pulls shifts and is also teaching other paramedics "Down Under".
I'm really proud of him

I was a volunteer firefighter from 1979 to 1996. In 1994 I got my EMT-Basic and started doing first responder because the part of Lubbock county I lived in didn't have ambulance coverage. I figured out I had a knack for it. I started Paramedic training later that year. In 1995 I went to work for Brownfield EMS. In 1996 I moved my family to Brownfield and have been here ever since.

Slightly different..
While an EMT I was part of the San JAc Crash Rescue Team. We provided safety (fire & rescue ) services at motorsporting events here in Texas and around. Worked SCCA, NASCAR, USAC, AMA, CRRA, Champ Car, off-road and Formula 1 races.
I headed up the fire, hazmat, rescue and transportation emergency response teams for a couple of chem plants for a few years.
Not currently involved in these activities.

Interesting timing for your question. Just returned from a training meeting of my local VFD, which I joined last week. Right now my "involvement" is as Rookie 3rd Class
, but we'll be working on that...

I was a EMT-Paramedic in Chambers County. Was President/Chief for what was then Beach City Vol. EMS, now merged into Trinity Bay EMS. Did a stint in the fire dept for awhile.
Had to let my certification lapse when we moved to Kalifornia.
I have a great respect for those who choose to serve others in Fire/EMS as well as LEO.
At times I really miss the adrenaline rush and being on the streets.

Started out as a volunteer in NW Harris county with Klein VFD in 1984, got hired with Killeen FD in 1990, spent 8 yrs as a paramedic and then promoted to LT. Am currently at 17 yrs and looking forward to when I can retire.

Useta was, 17 years volunteer fireman, ambulance, EMT.
Let my EMT expire after I quit the VFD and regret it to this day.

Was in a League City Volunteer Fire fighter in the 90s, Great people and best unpaid job there ever was.

Probably chewed the same soot during that time...And didn't even know ya!
Did you make those Balboa Aparment fires (Nassau Bay) back in '93 or '94??? I don't recall the exact date...
I think everyone made those in some way shape or form...

While I have the deepest respect for career firefighters and EMS personnel, there is no way I could do that for a living...that said, I was very active in Volunteer Fire/EMS for about 18 years.
EMT-Special Skills
ACLS
Certified Firefighter
Certified Firefighting Instructor
CPR Instructor
Served as Captain, Training Officer, and for a while Assistant Chief of VFD
I would still be doing it today, but the job moved me to "the big city" and kept me traveling a large percentage of the time.
I still miss it!

Yup I sure did, both times. I think I was on the ladder truck both times.
I was on Webster Ladder 1 on the first one...The second one I believe we went defensive, and it burned to the slab...Seabrook even had their fireboat on that one...
Ahhhhh, those were the days...
