Got my first opportunity to take my new Detonics "StreetMaster" to the range this weekend. All I can say is "Wow". Talk about accurate. Right out of the box, this 45 would prove to hold it's own with any of the other custom 45's I shoot. This includes Wilson, Baer, Kimber Custom and Ed Brown. And this is a $1,000.00 +/- handgun!

My main concern with this pistol, prior to shooting, was that the short Combat Master Grip would make for a hard to control firing situation. Could not be further from the truth! I found the recoil to be no problem. In fact, while practicing at "real world" encounter distances - 10 to 20 ft - I was able to consistently maintain 1 - 1.5 in groups of 5 shots! Even when extending out to 15 and then 25yds, still managed to group most within 3 - 4 inches. This is without any sight tweaking. Also, I did not experience any FTE or FTF during 150 rds of Remington 230gr FMJ ammo.

Will post more results as I get more range time with the pistol.

Is Detonics back in business? Been a rocky road for them, and I can't say I'd buy a gun from a company with such a history of instability...

I always liked the Detonics Combat master, any gun good enough for Magnum PI is good enough for me! (If I could afford it LOL)

You are all correct. The "new" Detonics USA it seems has temporarily suspended operations. Their website is not up and running.

However, anyone that knows and/or owns Detonics products must appreciate them for the innovation they (original WA based Detonics) brought to the market with the first "compact" 45 - the Combat Master and the quaility of their products, i.e. no MIM parts only steel. I own - let's say "more than one" Detonics Combat Masters. Most are simply collector pieces that are unfired with original factory paperwork and boxes. However, I do also have (in addition to my new StreetMaster) an excellent condition Mark VI stainless professional model that I am having customized for use as a carry piece.

The point for my post was to share my experience with a quality product that I believe offers exceptional performance and value. Granted, one must be willing to own a pistol whose manufacturer may or may not rise again. But, if you can overcome this objection, there is some mighty fine shootin' waiting. There is also the possibility that with such limited re-issue, the new Detonics USA pistols may also become collectable one day.
