Hi, I'm new here and I've looked and found some information but I'd like some clarification.

I currently own three firearms, an AR-15, .308, and a Glock 27. I bought all three weapons prior to enlisting into the Army. While in Boot Camp I ran upon tough times, as does everyone. However, without getting into too many specifics I was sent to an on-base hospital due to my depression. I wasn't a threat to anyone else or myself but none the less it happened. Since being discharged on medical reasons, I returned home on April fourth, I haven't attempted to buy another firearm out of fear of being denied. So my question is, will my history disrupt my ability to buy another firearm, as well as get my CHL?

You may want to look at ATF Form 4473 and see if any of the questions under item 11 would make you ineligible to purchase a firearm.

No, I don’t believe I fit any of those. I was never institutionalized, and it was a general discharge.

To be sure you should probably consult an atty. Since you were hospitalized for an emotional/psychiatric condition there could be an issue here.

Your application would probably have to go through a medical advisory board. That's more hoops to jump through, but is not insurmountable, and after your experience w/ the military you're no stranger to dealing with bureaucracy.

Searching this forum for other posts with the phrase 'medical review board' or 'medical advisory board' will give you a good idea of what to expect.

OP never said he was hospitalized. He was sent to the hospital, which is common on large installations. Specialists are the the hospital and often do consultations and out patient care without actually admitting. As omegaman said, it's probably a good idea to look at the 4473 and see how his situation would require him to answer the questions.

I'm reading his post as that being the reason for his general discharge for "medical reasons" which indicates it went further than just a quick trip to the Hospital.

There's a time and place for getting advice from an atty and with the possible consequences here it's what I'd recommend.

There are a good many "gun lawyers" around today that specialize in this stuff and promote our 2nd Amendment and Carry rights and most of them will answer a question like this for little or nothing as they won't have to put a whole lot of time into it beyond an initial consultation.
