Vacationing in gun restricted Dominican Republic

The Dominican Republic has very restrictive gun laws.
David Ortiz was shot by an assassin while sitting at a table near the street with friends.
He was a Boston Red Sox star retiring in 2016. He is from the Dominican Republic.

The crowd at the bar responded to the shooting.
"The gunman was captured and beaten by a crowd of people at the bar, Bautista said, according to the AP. Police were waiting until the man underwent treatment for his injuries before questioning him."
Good work on their part.

15 year old goes into a diabetic coma while in DR.
No previous diabetic condition.
Could be this is a young girl having her first experience with this disease.
Traveling back to Argentina in a coma.
Looks pretty healthy a few days ago from the photos.
People get sick on vacation.

I have treated plenty of diabetic emergencies in the past 20yrs, I have never heard of sudden onset diabetes, typically it's discovered after months or years of ongoing and worsening symptoms! I'd like to know more of the medical results of this!

Worse than getting sick in the DR, getting kicked off the plane and not being allowed to leave unless you charter an air ambulance.
Denver man made it on the plane, but they kicked him off when he vomited in the bathroom.
In hospital dieing. Kidney failure.

Two million Americans visit each year. Is this a statistical deviation or a real thing? Why though does it take the FBI a month to do toxicology? This shouldn’t take more than 48 hours.
