I have a Glock 21 and have happily put many rounds through it. It is still stock, but I have heard of people modifying them. I am most interested in hearing about the recoil spring. What is its function and is it a worthwhile mod?

I don't own Glocks, and have only shot a few, but I will say that the ONLY gun I have seen go down in advanced training was a Glock with Mods.

Take that for whatever you think its worth.

It seems to be the general concensus at GlockTalk.com (go check the place out if you haven't, great resource) that the only ways to mess up a Glock is to put in aftermarket parts or shoot faulty ammo. My Glock is bone stock, except for TruGlo TFO night sights and the Glock extended slide stop lever. I would definately keep a Glock that is being kept as a self defense weapon stock.

Agreed....the only mods I've heard good things about have been either the .22 conversion kits from Advantage Arms and modified sites. Glocks are really meant to be "factory guns" and not much else. A lot of the 1911 guys in here like something that you can personallize and I agree that it's nice to have something you can tweak. I recently purchased a Sprinfield 1911 Loaded Mil Spec and LOVE IT! It's not my primary carry piece; that job goes to my Glock 31 in .357 Sig simply because of the weight difference. My best advice you be to leave it alone and it wil treat you with joy for a LONG time.

I am of the opposite school of thought. If I own it, I will tweak it. For me, "stock" is not good enough. If it won't put 5 rounds in one hole the size of a quarter at 15 yards then it's not acceptable to me.
Yes, a Glock is capable of this level of accuracy for anyone out there shaking there heads right now.

I do a little tweaking to my Glocks when I get them (I own 3 one of them being a 21). I always instal night sights, then a Glock extended slide realease, finally one I install a Glock 3.5 connector. Notice all these are Glock parts or, their sights. The internals of a Glock I really don't like to farm out. I have thought about getting one of those aluminum frames though and building up one, but still use Glock insides.

I like a 3.5 lb connector, light buff on the internals, T.R. Graham slide lock and rubber grip tape. I prefer a little "mush" in the trigger vs. a glass rod break.

I have never seen a reason to change the recoil spring assembly....mine all seem to run just fine with the factory spring and rod. I have worn a recoil spring out to the point that my gun would not return to battery.

I agree with HighVelocity.....a Glock is capable of amazing accuracy if one takes the time to learn the trigger and find the sights that work for them.

That is about it. My wife got me a Lasermax for Christmas. I think that it has potential benefits in some very limited circumstances but really the only modification i would really recommend would be night sights.

It never hurts to polish the feed ramp and I do that with all my automatics and some folks like the do the .25 cent trigger job but my Glock 30 never needed. You can also do all that polishing by firing lots of ammo through it....more fun

Thanks for the responses, it makes me feel better! My Glock has always been what I shoot best. I was just wondering if there was anything that would really improve that, but it appears not. More money to spend on the other guns! :D

This. Spend your money on training; you'll see a much better improvement in your skill with money spent here.

When I went to frontsight, I did learn a little bit. More importantly, they had a scenario in a "shoot house" to mimic something in real life.

After that, I no longer thought I could handle myself should something "go down" I *KNEW* I could. My adrenaline was going pretty heavy, and I was still able to discriminate targets, and shoot what I aimed at. Even though I felt I learned only a little, I came out of the experience with a 100% boost in my faith in myself to handle a situation should I need to.

That in itself was worth the money.

My next training will either be some advanced handgun or possibly a shotgun or carbine course.

The only mods on my 21 are the longer slide release and the wider clip release. If I used it for home defense I might put night sites on it. Springs Rods, Trigger stops are of no real value to a Glock. The Glock was built to be a simple service weapon. If you want something else your best served spending the money on another type of handgun.

Don’t get me wrong, I love my Glock, it's the only Semi-auto I have. I'm stating the simple truth, its value and simply is destroyed if you add complication to it.

The little button you press to release the magazine, I allways refer to them as a clip release, dont know why.
