SACRAMENTO (Reuters) - An active shooter was reported at a food festival in California on Sunday and a police spokesman said there are casualties.

Few other details were immediately available. NBC Bay Area said ambulance crews were told 11 people were "down" after shots rang out on the last day of the Gilroy Garlic Festival, an annual three-day event south of San Jose.

CNN) Police are responding to reports of a shooting at the Gilroy Garlic Festival.

The Gilroy Police Department tweeted that the scene is still active.

The food festival is held at Christmas Hill Park in Gilroy, about 30 miles southeast of San Jose.

Nope cant happen... California has a background check on ammo sales. There is no way criminals can get ammo for their guns. Heck they have background checks for all sales. They even have an approved roster of safe guns. No way this happaned...

At this time it appears there may be multiple shooters. Early information is often wrong. Praying for the victims. They are nothing, but sheep. What a sad place.

That is incredibly sad to hear. It's always heartbreaking to hear about events like these. The worst part is that for a county of about 2 million people, only 30 or so carry permits have been issued. I highly doubt anyone of those would've been carrying at that festival or anywhere populated.

When will the state realize that laws don't stop criminals from being criminals. They may make it more difficult to do criminal things at the expense of the innocent, but criminals will still be criminals. They need to start addressing the root cause before more people suffer.

Rules DO NOT create rebel’s it exposes them. Laws DO NOT create criminals it exposes them. Their laws keep honest law abiding citizens from protecting themselves.

Twitter is showing photos of the shooter from social media with a Trump shirt. Also reports of two shooters.

Too early to tell, maybe just wishful thinking on someone’s part.

With an event that large one would think there would be armed police officers on duty.

I think I have stayed in a motel in that town. I remember the odor ( aroma) of their favorite crop.

A 6 year old was killed. 3 dead + shooter, 11 hurt. Gun Free Zone so so shooter cat a hole in the fence. Police were present and responded within a minute.

I read he had an assault rifle and local channel 13 shows a screenshot of a handgun with the shooting headline. Biased?

Gun free zone. They wanded everyone who came in. So the shooter crossed a creek and cut a fence to get in with his guns. They are saying rifle.

Apparently multiple Law Enforcement personel were present. Engaged the shooter within a minute and killed him.

When someone just pulls up a gun and starts shooting, it is pretty hard to stop them before someone gets hit. Even if you are armed. Just the same, it took a good guy with a gun to stop a bad guy with a gun.
