But, I thought I read from so many "common sense gun control experts" that a pistol was not effective against someone with a rifle.

A loaded pistol is always better than an unloaded rifle. As with most PIO statements this one isn’t revealing enough info to make it anything more than an opinion piece

The investigation is just starting, so I'm sure they don't have much more information than what is in the press release. And it's going to be Dallas doing the investigation, so that is going to take quite some time.
