I'm looking for recommendations of the best inside-the-waistband holster for a Glock 26. I want open top--no thumb break. Is kydex thinner than leather?

I'll answer the question first: yes, kydex is thinner than leather. But kydex won't flex like leather will.

As for opinions as to the "best" IWB holster for a Glock 26, if you asked 20 people, I would almost guarantee at lest 10 different answers.

The most popular leather holster is Milt Sparks' Versa Max II. The wait time is long (about 6 months unless you buy used or happen upon a supplier who has them in stock), but the quality is supposedly excellent. I only say supposedly because I have never seen a VM2 in person.

The most popular kydex holster seems to be Comp-Tac's CTAC. They are less expensive than the VM2, and you can have them at your door from the manufacturer in a matter of days. I owned one and loved it until I lost some of my own extra padding. It started poking me a little, so I tried out leather, which I now prefer.

My holster of choice (for a Glock 23) is AKJ Concealco's IWB - Ambidextrous. You can have one in your hand for common pistol models in about a month-ish for less cost even than the CTAC.

To make a long answer even longer, you need to figure this one out for yourself. Go to a gun show or two (or more) and try every holster that the vendors will allow. Find someone in your area who has a selection of holsters for sale and compare them. Make friends with members of this board in your area, and I'm sure they'll let you try their holsters out. Comp-tac C-TAC is one of the most popular. I prefer the Infidel made by the same company. Best customer service out there.

I carry a Glock 33, which is about the same as a 26. I have a UCR IWB holster from http://www.threatsolutions.com that is 100% kydex. It is very comfotable. DeSantis makes a holster just like it called the Scorpion. I think the Scorpion is a little thicker and heavier.

I have a CrossBreed IWB which is 1/2 leather, 1/2 kydex. It is more comfortable than the UCR and lighter. ( If you ever order a CrossBreed IWB you need to ask for a "FULL GRIP/ COMBAT DRAW! Trust me.)

Comp-Tac, http://www.comp-tac.com has a new one, the Minotaur MTAC, which is 1/2 leather, 1/2 kydex. I don't own one YET, but I have read good things about them and would recommend it highly.

The CrossBreed, http://www.crossbreedholsters.com is the only holster I have, out of 7 or 8, that I would buy another one.

i carry my glock 26 in a C.T.A.C and i love it!

Holsters are a very personal item, and it seems everyone has an opinion about what is best. But, what fits me might not work at all for you. Unfortunately, there are not too many places where you can try them on before you buy.

Good luck in your quest, but resign yourself to the fact that you, too, will soon have a drawer full of castoff holsters.

Don Hume or Uncle Mike's IWB works well for me.... my .02.
