Texas Rangers issued gear
I was perusing the website of the Texas Rangers just now and encountered a page entitle "Standard Issue Equipment."
It says, in pertinent part:
"Firearms & Defensive Gear
Rangers are permitted to carry any sidearms they chose as long as they can qualify on a regular basis. Most favor the department issue .357 cal. Sig Sauer, or .45 cal. Colt Automatics."
Might this be a confused reference to the .357 Sig caliber pistol?

Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.
Re: Texas Rangers issued gear
IIRC the P2226 in .357 Sig was the issue weapon but now they have a choice of the P226 or a Sig .45 1911 if they choose not to use their own weapon. I would assume the issue weapons to be the same as the other divisions of the DPS.
EDIT. The DPS is either the Sig in .357 Sig or S&W 9mm. The DPS SOG has the .45 as an option.

I believe they decided against the change to the S&W 9mm after many malfunctions.Waco1959 wrote:IIRC the P2226 in .357 Sig was the issue weapon but now they have a choice of the P226 or a Sig .45 1911 if they choose not to use their own weapon. Re: Texas Rangers issued gear
I have sold a Colt 1911 to a Texas Ranger and he was going to use it as a duty weapon. I assume they can still use which weapon they choose.

The report I was given was actually 1 malfunction (FTFeed which could not be duplicated in 5000 rounds) and (one sight supposedly shifted 3 microns) Sounds horrible!!!!!

Carry safe and carry when and where you can. I'm just sayin'.

I saw that same report.
It looked like someone already made the decision to switch to 9 mm and then tried to make the data fit their conclusion.

It says anything they want. I was merely wondering about the .357 cal Sig Sauer reference, whether it really meant .357 Sig, or there was a Sig Semi-auto in .357 Magnum I'd never heard of.JALLEN wrote:I was perusing the website of the Texas Rangers just now and encountered a page entitle "Standard Issue Equipment."

Do other manufacturers make semi autos in .357 Sig?

.357 Magnum is a revolver round. .357 Sig was created to replicate the performance of the Magnum round in a semi-automatic. The Sig .357 refers to a Sig semi-automatic that chambers the .357 Sig round. Sig does not make revolvers.JALLEN wrote:It says anything they want. Re: Texas Rangers issued gear
FYI Coonan makes a .357 magnum 1911 so it can be either a revolver or semi although 357 would most likely refer to 357 Sig.

Re: Texas Rangers issued gear
If I do recall correctly, the Desert Eagle has the option of .357 Magnum. I've never heard the .357 sig called by sig sauer, but that was my conclusion. I've seen the .357 sig in a few models, but mainly the Glock 31. We have one of those somewhere, but it essentially a .40cal casing with projectile knacked down to a 9mm/.357. It would be hard to call it a 9mm sig, so I guess they went with .357, the caliber dimension. It's a good shooting little round though, but just a high power 9mm. Kind of what Winchester does with common rifle rounds when they make a WSM, WSSM. I've had the pleasure of using a .223 Winchester Super Short Magnum.
