Why would the county show its property on the appraisal list? It isn't appraised and sure as blazes they aren't going to pay taxes on it.

In San Diego, where I have very extensive experience with these things, the parcels belonging to the government are not on the tax rolls. I'm hoping that governments in Texas are smarter than governments in CA, being run by unionized socialists and all.

That may be a foolish assumption, I guess.
At least in Kendall County, even county owned property is listed.

I believe the government leases only the portion of the building in which they occupy and really has no control over the common areas. Therefore, the no sign statute would apply to the space the government occupies and would prohibit the government agency from posting a sign for that space.

I also agree with Charles that the government cannot require the building owner to post the building with a no gun sign.

It was pointed out to me a while back it doesn't matter if the government is the lessor or lessee because the law doesn't specify either. Therefore, it applies in either case.

Looks like I will be the one to notify Kendall County of their improper signs. They still have the gunbuster signs saying no guns on the courthouse. All of the courts are on the second floor and that is where the metal detectors are located. Will probably stop by to take pictures later today when I have a chance.

Haven't had occasion to check the other local government buildings yet.

I believe it would. Base Charles' and others' comments, I believe it applies to any and all no gun signs posted by government agencies.

Abraham, there is a procedure with timelines involved. Here is some good info. viewtopic.php?f=7&t=79315

The offending entity is required to be notified first and given time to rectify before a legitimate complaint made to the AG.

Stash, he needs to notify the City of Austin firsthand give them the time to rectify the situation before complaining to the AG.

It's obvious they are doing all they can to try and circumvent the law. There is always someone trying to bend, push, go around, or twist the limits. Hope it ends up costing them significantly if they keep it up.

I'm glad to hear the ban pertains to all signs and not just 30.06 signs. We have some government owned buildings that have gunbuster and no weapons allowed signs. I'm ready to address them with the affidavit Charles is going to make available.

You can do a property search of the county's property tax records. To find the appropriate site google "(county name) property tax appraisal district".
