As for military experience. I didn't learn to really shoot until after I was out. Cold War, Navy handgun training consisted of an afternoon of minimal instruction -- designed primarily to keep recruits from shooting the range staff -- and no more than 10 rounds fired through some clapped out 1911 22 conversions at 15 yards or more. Seriously, they could have sold those old things as maracas they rattled so much.
