Re: The Mother of All Negligent Discharges

A pretty amazing story, but... To my (limited) knowledge the Gatling gun in an F-16 has to have both electrical and hydraulic power to fire, and there is a safety that prevents the gun from firing if there is weight on the nose gear. Plus, of course, ammo. So a lot would have to happen/go wrong for...

Re: TX: 70 yr old Plano vet sentenced to 87 months

I believe serial numbers were not even required on firearms until the 1968 gun act.

Re: Complaint filed against Lubbock County Courthouse

Pretty much this exact question is being litigated in Austin right now in Paxton v City of Austin D-1-GN-16-003340 . So far the judge has ruled that the law allows the government to ban licensed carry throughout the entire building if the building contain a court/offices of the court. BUT only when ...

Re: What percentage of police officers have fired their weapon outside qual/training?

The study notes that white and military veteran officers were more likely to report having fired their weapons. I wonder how much those two groups overlap? I remember from stats a few years ago that whites are represented in combat arms at a much higher percentage relative to their proportion in soc...

Re: Trouble Purchasing Rifle at Walmart

I have never thought of this being a problem before. I got my Texas drivers license and my CHL when I moved to Texas in 1998 (hard to believe it’s been 20 years already) and both licenses have always displayed my middle initial rather than my full middle name. Not sure how many guns I bought since t...

Re: Experience dealing with LEOs during events etc?

They undoubtedly could keep out license holders from other states if they wished to, but they would be hard pressed to charge them with a crime if they managed to get in, as there is no such statute. Oh I don’t believe that at all. Regardless of which of the legislature’s Security rules you break, ...

... I didn't think they let out of state licensees in with handguns. ... Reciprocity would be largely meaningless if they didn't. Sorry if I wasn't clear. I was referring to the State Capitol, which does not operate under the LTC law (e.g. reciprocity and all that). What law,do they operate under? ...

Re: U.S. Voter records sold, including Texas

You can go to the elections office or clerk for your county and get voter registration information on a disk. It is public info in Texas. Anyone interested in getting elected in Texas will get a copy of this to find out where to campaign. IIRC, at our local office you have to pay for paper copies, b...

Re: Experience dealing with LEOs during events etc?

I dunno about the officer with the loud mouth (in the Capitol), but I didn't think they let out of state licensees in with handguns. Pleasantly surprised that they do. When I went to the capitol the line for (then) CHL was clearly marked so I just walked over, showed my license, they scanned it and ...

...And I cannot think of a reason to do it now, with the knowledge we all have of bullet-resistant clothing now. .. But there will be doubt about effectiveness of this guy's stuff. There are already proven manufacturers of bullet resistant vests and such. I guess his niche is clothing that looks li...

Re: Turkey: Saudi journalist last seen at Saudi consulate in Turkey

Addendum: The Saudis can be infuriatingly slow, vague, and mind-bogglingly reluctant to make a decision, or to take responsibility for anything, but when it comes to their own survival they can move amazingly fast and brutally. Some of the ideological forebears of the current "let's take Islam back ...

Re: Turkey: Saudi journalist last seen at Saudi consulate in Turkey

So I'm reading the journalist was also a Muslim Brotherhood fellow traveler, if not member, was a confidant and advisor to members of the Saudi royal family who are on the outs with the current ruler, and his beef with the current ruler is not that he's too authoritarian but that he is too western ,...
