Re: School activity involving homeschoolers

I think home schools in Texas are considered private schools that do not require a certification. Not sure about the "co-op" designation--just seems a way to structure a home school or private school. There was a Texas Supreme Court case several years back authored by Justice Barrow that recognized ...

Re: Dallas Under-Funding Police to the Point Where Life-Threatening Calls Go Unanswered

We stay a night at "Candlewood Suites" Love Field by the Stemmons Freeway before we catch our flight. Thug area? Or safe? It's not the worst part of town, but not the best either. It's not far from some of the seedy "night life" areas. You'll see individuals and small groups wandering around at all...

Re: Dallas Under-Funding Police to the Point Where Life-Threatening Calls Go Unanswered

Not very familiar with the Dallas area. Wife got us a good deal on Southwest so we be flying out of Love Field in the future. We stay a night at "Candlewood Suites" Love Field by the Stemmons Freeway before we catch our flight. Thug area? Or safe? The area near Love Field is mixed. I would suggest ...

Re: Killed in a Midlothian church

This is one of several outrageous murders that have not been solved. Another is the "Delphi Murders" of two young girls murdered near a walking trail in Delphi, Indiana. They have a photograph of that suspect taken by one of the victims and even a voice recording where he ominously commands, "Down t...

Outstanding Motivational Book

I have read many motivational and self-help books but I ran across one this week that stands out from all the rest. David Goggins is a retired navy seal--he been there and done that. The language in the book is coarse so be warned but don't let that get in the way of the wisdom he imparts. Once I st...

And I’ll add #11: The AR-15 is a lot of fun to shoot!
I agree! :patriot:

Re: UNT Dallas School of Law suspends student, possiby in part because he owns a firearm

This young man is learning about the adversarial system up close and in person. Looks like he is getting a raw deal and it sounds all quite Kafkaesque. He should certainly see an attorney who specializes in "school law" and consider his options. Before I read this link I had never heard of the Unive...

I suppose the OODA Loop (observe, orient, decide, and act) would be relevant there too.

Re: Officer Invades Apartment, Shoots Resident

There's a big difference between walking into a house that you think is yours, not kicking the door in and shooting someone you think is an intruder and knowingly kicking the door off the hinges on a house you know is not yours and knowing there may be somebody home with the intent to commit a crim...

Re: Officer Invades Apartment, Shoots Resident

There is much about this case that we do not know (witness statements, etc.). However, having said that, how about a "mistake of fact" defense under Section 8.02 of the Texas Penal Code? In other words, had it been her apartment she would have been justified in using deadly force under our castle do...

I second the Mossberg 500. I keep mine loaded with no. 4 game load--does a decent job on any stray raccoons around the house. I also have the Mossberg 590--it is built like a tank and weighs like one too. :) If you are just hunting rabbits and squirrel then check out the Harrington Richardson single...

Re: At This Point Is 'Fireclean' Found Wanting or...?

I am sticking with Hoppe's No. 9 solvent then Mobil 1 as a lubricant and protectant--something you are thinking about getting away from. If I am in a hurry I will usually grab a can of Breakfree CLP or Ballistol for an all in one "CLP", however, neither do as good a job as my first mention. Just my ...

Re: QuikTrip hiring 'hybrid employees' who can work while armed to deter crime, keep customers safe

All of this talk of semantics reminds me of another political chat group I am in where we nuance and parse the meaning of "nazi", "radcon", "thug", "invasion", and many other currently "hot" words. It seems we now spend our time with problems of meaning rather than with problems of truth---philosoph...
