Re: Do you ever open carry?

I haven't, but I normally do carry when I'm out and about. I do prefer carrying with an OWB holster (Sig P938 with Wright Leather Works Predator). Cooler months makes this much easier in Texas but a nice, untucked shirt works well the rest of the year.

Re: New Instructor Training Questions

A PowerPoint presentation isn't required for teaching the class. A new instructor wouldn't have the necessary, required information to create such a presentation until after they've taken the class... so I'm trying to figure out how he could have one and why DPS would ask to see it?

Application Process Question

Good evening instructors! This is a first for me so hopefully some of you can provide a little clarification. I gave a class back in March 2017 (<2 yrs ago). A student from that class started the application process shortly after (>1 yr ago) but never did the fingerprinting requirement. Does the stu...

Re: School activity involving homeschoolers

I am a home school parent. Home schools in Texas are viewed as non-certified private schools. Your child does not receive a high school diploma from the state of Texas upon graduation. I don’t see how these gatherings could possibly be viewed as a school sponsored activity when Co-ops are little mo...

Re: HB 497 - Add Types and Uses of Ammunition to Required LTC Course Curriculum

Like the others who've chimed in, I already cover ammo types, selection and purpose in my classes so adding this as a required topic would be little or no change.

Re: "Brandishing" law or prior cases?

then there's this... PC §9.04. THREATS AS JUSTIFIABLE FORCE. The threat of force is justified when the use of force is justified by this chapter. For purposes of this section, a threat to cause death or serious bodily injury by the production of a weapon or otherwise, as long as the actor’s purpose ...

Re: New Instructor Training Questions

Agree... bring snacks and drinks, especially on range day; take notes; ask questions. On the shooting qualification, it seemed several guys were only familiar with semi-autos and struggled with the revolver. We had more fail round 1 than I would've guessed. If you're in that camp you might want to g...

Re: Range time (or lack of)

I've been doing the dry fire practice and drills using the MantisX (allows you to use your own handgun) and SIRT pistols from Next Level Training coupled with the LASR software. Pretty happy with both.

Re: Age old debate: LTC Badges

The newly added verbiage regarding volunteer security services (at a church) includes a section that states (c) While providing volunteer security services under Subsection (b), a person may not wear a uniform or badge that: (1) contains the word "security"; or (2) gives the person the appearance of...

Re: LTC for persons under 21

IANAL but I don't think reciprocity requires you meet Texas' eligibility requirements. If you want to obtain a non-resident Texas LTC yes... but not just to carry under the authority of your state's license. Some of the examples given above are about following the individual state rules for where yo...
