He should sign SB273 in front of the 30.06 sign at Austin City Hall, HB910 in front of Acevado's office at APD Headquarters, and SB11 on the steps of the UT tower building.

Or would that be spiking the football?
:thumbs2: I would do something like that; he probably won't.

Public as in "journalists will be present", or "anyone can attend"? If he'll be signing them in Austin I'd love to go and take a picture of the bills being signed.
That will depend upon the venue. If it's at the Capitol in either the House or Senate, then the public can probably attend in the gallery. If it's on private property, then the size of the venue will be a factor. I don't know yet when or where. I hope it will be open to the public, but then the Bloomberg loons can show up too and make it a circus. They have no respect for honesty or decorum. They fought, lied, deceived, and lost, so they'll be mad.

Re: SB11 & HB910 This week....

Did anyone actually see the alleged negative statement by Students for Concealed Carry posted anywhere other than on the TexasTribune.com website? I'm suspicious for three reasons: 1) It was posted on the TexasTribune.com webiste; 2) it did not identify the person allegedly making the statement, much less their position with SCC; and 3) it contradicts what is posted on the SCC website.

The as-passed version of SB11 is not what we wanted. It does have value in that any school that violates the spirit of the Bill will make it easier to amend the law in 2017. As soon as SB11 goes into effect, I will start sending Open Records Requests for a number of documents (won't say what) and preparing an analysis for the 2017 legislative session. When the legislature grants discretion, it typically does not respond well when that discretion is abused. Schools have the ability to act in good faith, or they can lay the foundation of their own downfall. Like Bladed, I expect the latter.

Yes. I've been asked to hold do something I've never done before, but it sounds like a good idea. I've been planning to announcer the new initiative this Tuesday, but the suggestion was to do it at a dinner event at a location that seats up to 200 people and record it. (This was brought up after I posted my invitation to have a debate/town hall meeting.) That way we can have the initiative explained and take questions from the floor. We can also talk about this legislative session. Then, all of this will be available on the Internet.

If there's enough interest, I'll put it together. However it is announced, I really excited about the new initiative and the difference it can make in grassroots activism. Hopefully Texans all over the State will share my enthusiasm.

Chas.
Can you expand on a possible Geographic location?
It would be in the Houston area.

Apparently they are trying to smile at adversity, because they were blasting out emails, tweets and even running ads trying to kill this "terrible and dangerous Bill!" I guess lying is systemic at MDA.

:iagree: Absolutely!! Being able to turn on the phones, faxes and emails are critical to a successful legislative session and this doesn't happen of people don't respond. Thanks to all of you for not letting the proverbial "other guy" do the work.

There's a legal remedy for that and the doctrine is called "capable of repetition, but avoiding renew." It for precisely this type of repetitive violation of the law, interrupted by periods of compliance.

I don't think that is in the bill. AM I wrong..?
I know PBS doesn't believe in the Constitution.
It is not in the bill and would be a violation of the constitution and open up law enforcement to civil liabilities. On the bright side, many recorded instances of such violations should result in legislative action in 2017.

jmra wrote:I stand corrected. If this bill passes the first thing that needs to happen in 2017 is to bring the penalty in line with 30.06 if they are going to use the 30.06 sign.
I agree, but the offense would not be a violation of TPC §30.06, at least on public school grounds. The violation is of a new offense created in TPC §46.035. The 30.06 sign is used because it's familiar. Private schools can use TPC §30.06, so there would be two potential charges, but TPC §30.06 is a Class C.

Any reason to believe it will not make it out of the house?
This is a personal opinion only. A filibuster would only be 10 hours long, if our bill is the first one up.
