Re: Does anybody here still care a revolver?

Since I lost the use of the middle finger on my dominant hand, I've carried a J-Frame almost exclusively. I find it much easier to manipulate and reload than my semi-autos. I know it sounds counter-intuitive, but i can manage a speed loader and cylinder much more reliably with my limited dexterity t...

Re: Sb1588 to eliminate most vehicle inspections

I know how costly it can be when they check engine light comes on. About $13 on Amazon for a Bluetooth reader and $5 for the app that tells you what the most likely cause is. Reset it as you pull in for the inspection, and hope they get done before the light comes back on. Unfortunately that trick ...

Re: Ft. Worth Gun Buyback

Being somewhat a gatherer of junk, and a tabletop gunsmith, I've got a couple of junkers that people have just given me to get rid of, or that aren't worth the acetylene to melt 'em down... Maybe I should run up to Ft. Worth and take those old clunkers with me...along with about $500 in cash and buy...

Re: Traveling to/thru other states

As TAM mentioned, handgunlaw is your friend. I've found it to be the best reference out there, and they present the information in a consistent format. I like to keep the PDF files on my phone to have as I prepare to pass through various states. For the most part (in layman's terms) the states you'v...

Re: Checked baggage containing a firearm.

Within the last year I've flown out of both Hobby and IAH with a pistol, and it has been nothing more than an annoyance due to the line. I see you're in Houston, so I'm just assuming you'll be flying out of here. Easiest way is with a locked hard-sided case that fits in your suitcase. Personally, I ...

Re: Smashed my Trigger Finger

A few years ago I trimmed my dominant index finger with a table saw. Fortunately I didn't end up losing enough finger to even be visibly noticeable, but I do have some residual numbness (I describe it as "muted" but it only makes sense to someone who has a similar injury). At that time I was shootin...

Re: Carry Support from Governor Abbot

It wouldn't hurt my feelings for Gov. Abbott to put a little pressure on the current AG to take some real action in a timely manner around "fines for signs."

My one regret in electing Gov. Abbott is that I had to give him up as my Attorney General...for several reasons.

Re: Remington 870 project help

Call me old fashioned, but an 870 with a simple 18.5" barrel loaded with birdshot is as good a basic home-defense shotgun as there is. A mag extension might be worth considering, but if you're going to put it in service as a backup hunting gun, I'm not sure I'd bother. I might consider a side-saddle...

Re: Instructor Power Point

I'm hesitant to name names (not sure about forum rules around that) but the big, well known organization that sells course materials at the Instructor's Training classes puts out some great stuff IMO. The most recent version (2015) was a MAJOR improvement over the previous version, and the student m...

Re: Discharging firearm in a residential area

I am not a lawyer, nor am I LEO. And I'm speaking in VERY broad generalities... But, most of the laws, regulations, ordinances, etc. that would restrict discharging a firearm in most any situation are coupled with an affirmative defense that, in layman's terms, comes down to "it needed doing..." Not...

Re: Anyone know where Hornady presses are made?

Haha you definitely are. I'm going to look into installing the case feeder for the Dillon onto the Hornady. I hadn't read about that in my googling. The top portions (collator and funnel) are identical, just different colors. Mechanism at the press end, and such, I don't have a clue. I know for a f...

Re: Anyone know where Hornady presses are made?

Thank you! The case feeder with the AP is about $740 even at the sale price. That's only about $50 off from the Dillon with the case feeder. Seeing as how I view this as a long term investment I think the lifetime warranty is worth that. I also plan on reloading rifle and handgun in large amounts s...

Re: Anyone know where Hornady presses are made?

I think the ~$600 for a 650 is the bare press. You'll still need dies and a case feeder. One thing to note: The Hornady works quite well without the case feeder, I consider it an add-on, and a nice touch, but the press is designed to operate without the case feeder. The Dillon 650 is NOT designed t...
