Re: USS IOWA VS Japan's Yamato battleship
An interesting book: The Last Stand of the Tin Can Sailors — https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Last_Stand_of_the_Tin_Can_Sailors It describes a naval battle off the Philippines in which the Japanese attacked a US group of escort carriers (Taffy 3) defended only by a few DDs and DEs. One interesting ...

Re: SCOTUS: Dems introduce bill to add 4 new Justices
I guess the ending the filibuster comes first. The ram it through with a slim majority. That would certainly be a requirement. However, I think there are a few democrats in the Senate who aren't likely to go along. I could be wrong (it wouldn't be the first time) but while this is certainly a conce...

Yeah, plus a good portion of the time he was talking about AR-15s, they were showing a soldier with an M-60 machine gun.

Re: Merrick Garland Really?
It's likely he decided to pick his fights. No sense in protesting just to score points if it makes his life harder. As a Republican Senate leader, he has to deal with the current administration. Poking them in the eye when it produces no useful result is simply bad policy.

It's probably more accurate to say that grid failures CAN be cascading events. The article above says the real cause was a software bug that prevented operators from knowing they needed to redistribute the load.

Re: Cascend: Data Shows Wind-Power Was Chief Culprit Of Texas Grid Collapse
Another good article; https://www.zerohedge.com/markets/cascend-data-shows-wind-power-was-chief-culprit-texas-grid-collapse Interesting. The article proposes (among other things) - Winterizing equipment - Adding more Natural Gas Because, they say, wind power failed. Wouldn't winterizing the wind ge...

Re: Nobody but Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez
The power losses are due to a variety of factors, not only wind/solar failures. Gas & coal plants also had problems. By Wednesday, 46,000 megawatts of power were offline statewide — 28,000 from natural gas, coal and nuclear plants and 18,000 from wind and solar, according to the Electric Reliabi...
