In this case maybe better training is needed? Could of used the famous "tazer" or just pepper sprayed him. This officer wasn't trained well enough IMO?

Agreed, he could have easily shot her. Interestingly, initially he used his left hand as a "leveraging arm" which is common in knife attacks.

The article said the bad guy was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. I counted around 16 shots fired. Maybe those deputies need some range time too. I have never been shot at up close and personal like that so I might just mess myself and spray bullets in all directions.
