Strauss 2.0?

Rep. Bonnen, one of Strauss’ closest allies in the Texas House, has emerged as the favorite [for House Speaker], which displeases Cheshire and Garibay.
Much more at link. RTWT.

ETA: bear in mind we are not only readers of the forum and TSRA and NRA will have to work with whoever wins.

To paraphrase a common aphorism, the Speaker of the House doesn't elect themselves.

His voting history looks very pro-2a (https://votesmart.org/candidate/key-vot ... en/37/guns) - specifically was a cosponsor on HB910 - Open Carry, and cosponsored previous bills for campus carry and school marshal programs. He's endorsed by and rated 93% by the TSRA and the NRA.

The thought that Democrats should be forbidden from voting in the Speaker race is insane to me. You set that precedent now, then the first year that Republicans aren't the majority party it will bite you in the rear end. And, one day, that will happen. At this point in time, I see no reason to not support Bonnen.

I mean, I don't think he'd issue an executive order to unilaterally redefine certain firearm accessories or anything. At least not at this point in time.
