S&W 1911ds. Anyone have one

#1

Just at the title says, does anyone own one. I think the alternate name is Prodigy.
I really like the idea of a double stack 1911, even if it’s a 9mm.
Your thoughts

I have quite few of those.
in 9mm, Para Competition pistol with 5" and 6"
in 40SW, Infinity Limited race gun
in 45, PARA Limited
in 45, PARA Elite

SW did not make double stack 1911 as far as I know.
Options:
RIA (good intro 1911 made in Philippines)
PARA/Remington, no made any more very reliable and quality DS 1911
SPS PANTERA, hard to find, ,mid-level imported racing guns
STI/STATCACO, high-end 1911 DS
SVI/ATLAS/etc, Uber end 1911 DA

2 more choices
BULL
and now, Springfiled
I did not shoot one yet either of those yet.

Are you looking for a carry (small frame) or FS shooter?

My mistake. It is Springfield.
I am looking for a compact.

i have several spring fields
only one is a 1911 and that is a ronin model its a very comfy carry but single stack
the others are 2 compact and one full sized 9mm and 45 in double stack great little dudes to carry and great to shoot
the xd 9, 4 inch barrel is my most carried, its a perfect size and weight for me
the sub compact xd 45 is a handful with 13 rounds, it lets you know the 45 rounds are heavy, but it is a easy fire and easy to hold your point of aim
but with a short barrel its LOUD .

my fav 1911 is our colt circa 1967 , its one smooth operator in the black chrome

Not the Prodigy my friend, but this best 1911 I have ever owned. It is 15 or 18 round 9mm mags.

I have several 1911's but all are single stack. I was looking for a double stack and may look at the Para (if I can find one) or the STI. I would rather stay with 45 but may have to move to 9mm for double stack. Not any heavier than carrying a spare mag.

Carl, I also have the Wilson and you are correct. It is one of the best 2 that I own. It is an older full size in 45 but I carry it often.

oh I AGREE . but i thought he wanted a certain price point :biggrinjester: :biggrinjester:
wilson combat was not even on my list, not sure why because i have handled a few at the range and was envious of the owner.

I have a 4.25 Prodigy, Staccato P and a Bul Armory SAS II Ultralight.

The extractor tension on my Prodigy needs tightened a bit but other than that, it runs fine. Is it as good as the Staccato? No chance. The Bul Armory however is fantastic and priced pretty fair for what you get.

This is a rare example of an extinct species. PARA 10rd 45 ACP, 3" barrel

I may win it in an auction, but not sure if there would be a fight over it.
