I could use some prayers

Whether the need is great or small, there is power in prayer, especially when God's people raise their voices together.

I could use some prayers

Post by RPB »

I avoided doctors since 1990, but got Medicare Part B this last July on a PPO plan that has a $3,400 max out of pocket per year, and a brochure from them that lots of prices increase Jan 2013 (Obama planned it that way)

So I got my flu shot etc, and I quit smoking Thanksgiving 2011, and my doctor ordered a dermatology consult (going Friday) since I was a lifeguard and outdoors from age 2 till 25, and my grand dad had small cancers on his ears removed ... and a Bone Density scan (had that today) because a dentist said I had osteoporosis.

Also he ordered a Thyroid scan, since my dad had thyroid cancer which had spread to his parathyroid and glands ... he recovered 100% back in the 1970s, but had to take meds for it that affect a lot of things.

So, I get home, return a missed call; it's a Surgeons office who does thyroid surgery ... I'm like umm the doctor hasn't told me the results of that scan I had last week yet, I have an appointment with him on the 17th, what do you know that I don't /

They said get back with them after I see my doctor on the 17th...
I'm praying they jumped the gun and were going to refer me there IF needed, but praying I don't need that surgery and lifetime meds.......
I could use some prayers
(And after 45 years of smoking, we haven't even looked at lungs/esophagus/colon ... yet)
----------
I knew it, every time I see a doctor or Ex Wife, they tell me something is wrong with me ... that's why I avoid ...
Thanks

You didnt clarify what doc you are seeing, if it was a GP, then he will be referring you to an endocrinologist for treatment. If cancer is suspected after the CT Scan, then a needle biopsy is scheduled. If you havent had a biopsy then "unlax" a little.

Thyroid cancer has a very high survival rate and the medication is no biggie (and cheap) I was surprised at how many among us have thyroid problems & or cancer. Start talking to your friends and you will find that thyroid problems/cancer is somewhat common. Use google. I think you will find some comfort in what you learn. You can also expect many here to share their thyroid experiences.

After looking into it more there is a link to heating and eating food prepared in plastic. Throw plastic away and use ceramic dishware. BHP in some plastics imitate hormones, keep it away from your children and only use BHP free baby bottles.

I have had some thyroid problems and may be able to answer more questions. Feel free to pm me.

Good luck and keep us informed.

Thanks, yes my GP
I"d expect to see an endocrinologist, (Dr. Oz said people should in some circumstances/with some symptoms) I suggested it my visit 2 weeks ago, but this was general surgeons office calling, and they sounded a bit confused, saying they remove thyroids, unless it's about an acid reflux thing ... but they didn't get sent the thyroid scan yet so ... so, I'll just hang on till the GP tells me something on the 17th.... I'll report back here after I hear. (I'm not a fan of biopsies, around here. Actually, come to think of it, that may be what the surgeon guys were supposed to do ... don't know.)

Yeah my dad had thyroid and parathyroid removed, about 1970 and the cancer did not return, lived till he always thought he would.... 2008 ... and they cut nerves to his vocal cords and years later inserted teflon so he could talk with a great deal of effort, but was hoarse and hard to understand, even more on a phone (so he retired from the phone company)
And when he stopped his thyroid meds for other medical tests (he also had pacemaker and suggested they just put a zipper in from chest to abdomen) then he got depressed without the thyroxin.
He also had polyps and diverticulitis/and a colostomy. for several years.

I look like mom from the eyes up, and dad says I got her I.Q., but his medical problems below the eyes (and so far many things he had I have had or am getting, since I was age 2)

But ... my dad's hair turned grey .... mine turned loose. ... that's above the eyes/mom's side of the family.

I just don't trust doctors in this particular area of Texas as much as big city doctors, and don't look forward to prescriptions which have side effects requiring other prescriptions to take care of those side effects and .....
===============================

Just was an odd day
I went early to a place for a bone density scan they had twenty 30.06 signs in the 50 feet of hallway between the front door and scanning place; The lady says "How are you today" I replied "extremely nervous" she said it's a non-invasive scan nothing to be nervous about ... I replied it's all the gun signs you have is why I'm nervous, not the scan

backgrouind

Seton is becoming a "Teaching" facility as is this off-site imaging location, and that particular lady had a licensee pull a gun on her there .... so mangement decided hundreds of 30.06 signs would fix it ... every 4 feet there is one

(on typing paper, but one real sized one by the door)
anyway she then mentioned Chappell Hill bank ... so she isn't anti-gun but ... upper mgment is.

Then I visited a small gun store, didn't have much
then I went fishing, caught a 3-pound Bass, released it, Since 2008, that's the first "keeper" sized Bass I caught at Lake Marble Falls (I catch whites and lots of small blacks, but this was a decent one)

then went to Sutherlands in Marble Falls 50% off sale (store closing) and a guy working at the store says "You got any 1911s? I turn around and my FFL dealer I usually use is behind me and he replies "No" So I say hi to Larry and then tell the Store guy I know a guy with about 100 1911s what does he want and he says he shoots competitively ... but doesn't answer the question so I pay and leave

Then I came home to a message that someone wants to surgery me but doesn't know what to remove or install yet :???:

Still. mom died at my age and she was healthy until she got a rare leukemia, and dad and many in my family got one or another problem at my age ... one reason I decided time to stop some less healthy habits last year.

Based on what you describe it certainly sounds like the surgeon call was just their jumping the gun.
That said, you are in my prayers.

RPB, if you go to the doc and you're not comfortable with him or his advice....for heavens sake go get a 2nd opinion in Georgetown or even Austin....I know it's a drive but it's worth it for your piece of mind.

I like the GP. He was my mom and dad's GP for years, He's the "don't cause harm" guys
it's the specialists in the area from Burnet, Round Rock and Temple I distrust.

In the 1983/1984 mom was in Scott & White with a rare incurable Leukemia (cure discovered in 1986) and on a chemotherapy which lowered resistance to infection etc (besides she stopped making white blood cells) and she was given Acyclovir and her massive cold sore (from a herpes type virus) went away, and the doctor discontinued it, I talked to the head of the hospital to try to get it restarted and he informed me "there is no such thing as an antiviral medicine, that's an antibiotic" years later they started selling acyclovir to help control herpes. One day she called and said she was leaving, by the time I got from Marble Falls to Scott n White in Temple she was walking around in the parking lot in the snow with an orange beanie cap and hospital gown on and wasn't going back in there ... Got back to Marble falls and called the hospital to have them go check on her (empty room)

2007 dad saw Austin heart doctor who comes to this city, he overdosed him on blood thinners, because of afiberlating even with pacemaker-2 months later the FDA recommends a Gene test as some people can't take blood thinners (we can't) this was about the same time my freind Dennis Quaid's kids were overdosed by mislabling ..

anyway so dad was recovering from that overdose, I got him home, and he had left arm pain, I'm thinking heart failure lioke when he had heart atacks or heart failure after blood thinning-took for X-rays. they saw lung spot, did biopsy in North Austin Seton, his lung collapsed, but they sent him home, he improved, and the doctor substituting for his lung doctor (then on vacation) at highland lakes insisted he go to the hospital for an x-ray ( he was fine, the xray showed/ but he shouldn't have been moved yet) and his pneumothorax was worse after getting back home so back to ER got chest tube, he improved downtown Austin Seton, then chest tube slipped, doctor too busy so assistant JAMMED it in, restarted bleeding, they took to a nursing home, he coughed blood, they sent to ER, they admitted, his lung doctor said transfer him to Round Rock for radiation to stop the blood, they transferred him, Round Rock doctors said we don't want to do radiation, send him back, back and forth a couple times $4,000 in ambulances later they sent him home where he gave up after a few weeks. Cause of death: Pnemothorax complications and blood loss from jamming a tube where it wasn't meant to be jammed hard; death certificate says cause of death lung cancer from smoking-he wasn't a smoker and no one smoked around him since 1984...That was 2008 (September, just before he could/would have voted Republican for the FIRST time in his life)

Houston and Lubbock hospitals I trust. Central Texas ... not so much.
Might do second opinions in another city though if I need to.
Thanks, I'm praying it was a mistaken phone call.
I see the dermatologist tomorrow, my GP on 17th and he'll set up an esophageal and colonoscopy.
One of my best friend's dad' died from an Austin doctor tearing his esophagus ...
I'm getting everything "looked at" and if it's all ok, I may avoid doctors another 20 years.

Well, my niece just diagnosed me as having CDO

The niece ... (who can't find a garbage can in order to clean up after herself, so she leaves trash on the stove, empty hot pockets packages etc) says I'm clean so I must have CDO

Since I'm organized ... she said I must have CDO (She says ...that's like OCD, except with the letters in their proper alphabetical order, as they are supposed to be ... like they should be)

Too funny. Reminds me of the guy who lays in bed at night wondering if there really is a dog!
