Hello, I am at a graduation at UTEP in El Paso, for El Paso community college. 30.06 sign in the entrance I went through. No metal detector, told me I couldn’t bring in Knife or pepper spray.
Both UTEP and EPCC are Texas institutions having to opt into campus carry. Wondering the legality of having a 30.06 sign.
Comments would be appreciated thanks.

Re: Don Haskins EPCC graduation
Did UTEP opt in to campus carry? That is crazy. Never would have expected that. I graduated there in 1991.

Re: Don Haskins EPCC graduation
I believe they had to opt in as they are a public institution of Texas as is EPCC (EPCC is a community college).

Thought ALL PUBLIC Colleges and Community Colleges HAD to allow Concealed Carry with specific areas that could be prohibited, but there had to be justification for the prohibition.

I believe Haskin Center an exclusion zone in certain, circumstances (e.g. sporting events). UTEP campus carry website https://www.utep.edu/campuscarry/exclus ... index.html
Re: Don Haskins EPCC graduation
By the way attached EPCC ‘s commencement link and screen shot of prohibited items (also long list cameras not attached). No tickets, purchased or handed out.

Re: Don Haskins EPCC graduation
This. If it’s a public university, they can’t "opt out". All they can do is post certain limited areas with 30.06 signs, in addition to the areas that have always been off-limits, like sporting events venues, certain laboratories, etc.AF-Odin wrote: Fri Dec 13, 2019 7:31 pm Thought ALL PUBLIC Colleges and Community Colleges HAD to allow Concealed Carry with specific areas that could be prohibited, but there had to be justification for the prohibition.

Back at the Don Haskin’s Center for UTEP graduation this time. Same 30.06 signs+ others. Pretty, sure not in compliance with law and/or UTEP campus carry policy. Will address in more depth later.
