Clear Lake Hospital/ Warning Sign Wording

Once upon a time it was illegal to bring a gun into a hospital.
The sign at one time served as a valid warning.
The laws have since been changed.
No one ever bothered to take the sign down. but new laws obsoleted it.
The sign never had any legal force it was just a warning that at the time the sign was posted it was illegal to carrry inside the Hospital.

Harris County Deputys, Webster Police and the Houston Police are all well versed on 30.06.
30.06 is written very clearly and there is little left to interpetation

Just because a sign is mean and scary looking doen't make it a true assault sign. It still is just a sign.

As for the "Why worry if you exercise proper discretion" doesn't factor in some of the surprises that can befall one.

Recently, my pistol fell out of my holster and clattered to the ground in the library parking lot as I was exiting my truck.

The screws holding the holster together (kydex type) had backed out and out came my pistol. No warning just, SURPRISE! This by the way is a high end holster, not a one size fit's all cheapie.

I quickly scooped it up and no one was the wiser. I've since gotten new hardware and applied glue to the screws. They won't be backing out again.

But, this kind of stark blindsiding when armed is pretty unsettling and had it happened inside some place like the Clear Lake Hospital or for all I know the library, people would be freaking out and calling for security or 911ing.

I can imagine a low paid, conscientious security guy at Clear Lake hospital thinking he knows the law, after all, he's read that sign at the entrance and well, you get the picture. The possible outcomes are multiple...none boding well.

I don't mean to belabor this any more than what I've posted. I won't beyond this last one. It is, at least to me, kind of an interesting twist on all these improper signs regarding handguns.

I do not want to know where you will hide it. Seriously, concealed means concealed as Chas would say. If they do spot it then ask you to leave, simply leave. I dont see cops showing up and tasing you.

I just thought of Chinese and Vietnamese because I see a lot of businesses in the Houston area with signs in those languages.

January 1, 1996 you could not carry in a hospital. The law was change to require the hospital to post the 30.06 sign to keep you from carring in the hospital starting September 1, 1997. The penal code in 1997 also required the hospital to post large number 51 on the sign to the hospital. I think it was 1991 or 2001 when they were not required to post the large 5 1/2" red letter sign (51).

The signs that are being posted in the hospitals are not a reflection of any old signs or history of how the hospitals could tell us we could not carry.

I consider the signs being discussed as rather new because they only started showing up about 2003.

Some of the signs have said that it is against state law to have a gun here even if you have a conceal carry permit. I do not know why they post this type of sign.

However, I have asked DPS legal department several times and they told me you could take the ride. If a 30.06 sign was not posted and you had not been given verbal notice you should not be convicted.

With that being said I would like to know that I could not be arrested for carrying in a hospital that does not post the 30.06 sign.

I would feel better if the hospitals would post the 30.06 signs. If the hospital post a no guns sign at least it should not say it's against state law to have a handgun on your person even if you have a license.

Charles & Jeff I notice one sign last year that had the section of penal code the hospital was quoting. I tried to look up that code and could not find it at the time. If I find it posted again I'll ask your opinion on that section. I can handle the seeing the 30.06 signs. However when their lawyers post a sign that state it's illegal to carry a handgun even if you have a conceal carry permit it makes me wonder?

Anyone know how/if the various Memorial Herman hospitals are signed?

The one in Humble (MH-NE) has some wording like "Weapons are prohibited on these premises". Not a conforming 30.06 sign by any view.
