Have you ever fired it while it was in the bag? I am sure the first shot would work but would worry about the bag interfering with the cycling.tornado wrote:These are quart-size bags.
I had no trouble with practice drawing, and it was easy to get my finger on the trigger.
I carried it the same way when canoeing at a state park earlier in the summer.

Re: Sea World
Hmmm... no, I haven't. Unless someone posts here saying it's a bad idea, I'll try it soon.
Re: Sea World
I would imagine the heat of the first shot would melt some of that plastic bag onto your pistol, especially in the muzzle area. Might be awfully tough to clean that off. That would not be my primary concern in a SD situation, but it would be a big concern in a practice situation. I also imagine that the plastic bag at the rear of the slide would, indeed, keep it from cycling properly for a second round to chamber. That would be my biggest concern in a SD situation, especially with a .380. IMHO, of course. I would simply suggest a good cleaning and oiling before and as soon after the visit as you possibly can.
Remember, in a life-or-death situation, when seconds count, the police are only minutes away.

Re: Sea World
The bag will cause it to fail to cycle, for sure, but more likely it will impede ejection and you may get a very bad jam if the casing is bounced back into the ejection port while it is trying to feed the next round. I don't think I'd practice this maneuver unless you also want to practice your gunsmithing :)
BTW, poly & SS guns may negate the need for such extreme caution as a ziploc bag. Of course when I am at an amusement park like this, I make every effort to stay dry. Canoeing is a different story. Canoeing may be a great chance to carry a Hi-Point .45, then throw it away when you're done if it's rusted :)

Re: Sea World
Sounds like the sign is just an attempt to ward off potential civil liability.tornado wrote:Just an update.
I was there on Aug 22, 2008, and the same sign as above was still there.
As an aside, Schlitterbahn in New Braunfels has a similar "Gunbusters" sign, but it is NOT 30.06 compliant.
Although, I can't imagine how you would be able to conceal even a mouse gun when at that place.

Are we not calling for a boycott of Sea World, Schlitterbahn, etc.?

FWIW, IIRC, AFAIK, FTMP, IANAL. YMMV.
Re: Sea World
How was this thread hijacked? ... I was just kidding about the boycott. If you've read my other posts, I am not a big believer in the no-guns-sign boycott idealism.

Re: Sea World
I was actually planning to post a a "getting the handgun wet" experience discussion thread after work. I'll edit this post and add a link once I do that.
Update: DoubleJ has started another thread on the plastic bag aspect. Thanks!
I still plan my later post to ask for experiences.

Update Signs
I took my family to Sea World yesterday. At the entrance, there was only a small sign indicating a bag check station. It had the usual "No Weapons or Alcohol" warnings, etc. Walked right in, no worries. There wasn't even a hint of a sign at the parking lot entrance.
As of yesterday, it looks like we are still good to carry.
