I don't carry my Colt Government .380 anymore, but the few times I did, I used Hydro-Shoks.

Ball vs. JHPs: Oddly, I never had a failure to feed with JHPs. I had many of them with ball ammo, so I went with Hydro-Shoks both for mechanical reliability reasons, and figured they would be better at stopping an attack (to the extent that .380 is capable of such). He was talking about .22LR.
Many of us carry .380 and are confidant that is will be sufficient.

Of course you are correct, and I'm not exactly volunteering to be shot with a .380. And of the many many people I've seen shot dead, the largest subset were killed with .22s. No kind of bullet is good for you. I was just trying to be funny. No offense was meant, and I apologize if I offended.

The main reasons I don't carry my Government .380 are that A) in that type of pistol (very small, deep cover), I think a single action design is not as effective as a double action; and B) I have yet to see an ambidextrous safety available for my Colt, and I'm left handed. In fact, I was shopping for an LCP or Keltec when I recently bought my 642 instead. The 642 goes in my pocket whenever it is not easy or convenient to try and conceal a 1911.

I am currently carrying Hornady XTP 90gr. in my Ruger LCP. I have had good experience with the reliability of the XTP ammo in my PA-63 (in 9x18 Makarov), and believe they make a high quality product. The finish and consistency of the brass and bullets is exceptional, and feeding and cycling of the ammo has a very smooth feel. All of the ballistics reviews I've seen for XTP have been good, as well, with the bullet staying together and expanding well. Hornady has always been a good consistent ammo for me as far as accuracy is concerned, and other reviews I've read come to the same conclusion. Lastly, the XTP seems to be one of the few quality .380 SD rounds I can find consistently in local stores.
