I no longer wear any belt rig during summer. I used to, but field stripping a 1911 after every day of drenching it with perspiration gets old pretty fast. I also won't wear a belt rig if it's too hot to make also wearing an undershirt or T-shirt comfortable. My most common carry during summer in a 642 in a pocket holster.

As you see, my issue isn't so much comfort as it is concern for my gun. When disassembling my 1911, I find drops under the grips and inside the mag well of the frame. When I say drenched, I mean drenched.

I can't get the Underarmor shirts because they don't come large enough. I have bought t-shirts from Magellan made from CoolMax fabric that didn't help at all.

One of these days, I'll get a 1911 refinished with Black-T and then I can go back to carrying one in August.

Worked as a plumber in a small town up by Wichita Falls for two years. Spent 10 hours a day digging in the rock hard dirt out there and it didn't seem near as hot as it is here in this concrete jungle of DFW. Hawaiian shirts are always a good choice for staying cool. I will have to try some more of the moisture wicking shirts. The last one I got made me itch terribly when I got hot, maybe they are better now.

They have some Russell brand T's at Academy that look and feel like cotton that wick away sweat also. They are not the shiny, itchy kind that you referenced. Pretty cheap to $5.95. They are not high dollar but they do not get heavy when you sweat in them like a regular T. Check em' out.

I wear some of the BCG Under Armour copies from Academy. I buy the tight fitting ones, they seem to keep me cooler, and there's no worry of my gun getting snagged by them if I ever had to draw it. I also use a Comp-Tac MTAC holster and have no problem carrying my Ultra Carry all day every day.

I bought one of these short-sleeved shirts recently from Cabela's, and I may go back and get one or two more in different colors.

The item number is 8IS-903636 if you want to search the Cabela's site. The shirt is their "Ultra Dry" brand, a 63/37 nylon/polyester wicking fabric. It's very light-weight, has snaps instead of buttons (a nice feature), and a waffled texture that aids concealment even though the fabric is so thin. And it's on sale right now for $19.95.

How does that feel?

I use the cotton tees under a fishing shirt, either Colombia or Magellan. These are cooler than the hawiian shirts. The ventilation slots help keep a man cool.

Sometimes pocket carry is the only recourse.

You do get used to it. Fans by the bed and computer desk do just fine.

I live in an old house with just a window unit, which failed last March.

Now I went and bought a replacement on the free tax day on Memorial weekend.

But by this time, I'm stubborn enough to try to make it through the summer without installing it. It's still sitting in storage.

Mrs. Anygun and I were living in Kalifornia back during their "power crisis". We did without AC for a few months. Houses these days are not built to do without AC so I hope your older house ventilates better than most.

This was one of the few holidays in the last 20-odd years where I was actually off on the holiday and the whole family could be there. "The whole family" is now me (+wife +kids), my mother, and my sister (+two grown kids and two grandkids), so 14 of us were at my mother's in western Arkansas.

Mom insisted we were having an "old-fashioned 4th", by which she meant she was turning off the A/C so nobody would be tempted to hide out inside.

It worked, too. We spent the day out in the nice shady yard, playing games and watching the three youngest kids on the slip-n-slide. Grilled burgers and dogs, had fried chicken, and all the good side dishes (homemade). Plus the first homemade ice cream we've had in years!

It was cooler up in the Ouachitas than it would have been in DFW, Houston, or even Texarkana, but it was still blasted hot. I carried a Taurus M85UL in an Uncle Mike's pocket holster, and honestly never noticed it.

I went with my GF today to Kohl's and bought some clothes for the first time in probably a year (with the exception of the 5.11 Holster Shirt), and picked up a couple of breathable Sport-Tek shirts to wear underneath my cover garment. I also picked up one of the above-mentioned polyester breathable shirts (but in polo form) for when I'm only going to be pocket-carrying (very rare occasion). If you're going to pick up one of the polyester ones, I'd strongly recommend you try it on first. It took 3 different shirts for me to find one that fit correctly and didn't seem to accentuate the (ahem) small details of my chest area. The one I got looks pretty good on me, and is pretty light. Also found some decent cargo shorts with plenty of pocket room. They seem to look decent with my normal carry garments over top, so hopefully the shorts combined with the sport-tek shirts will do a lot to keep me cool on my off days (when I can wear shorts). I'll try to post in a couple of days to let everyone know how it works out.

yep yep, it's getting to be that time of year again.

I normally wear IWB at about 2:30 -3:00 but now that it's so much warmer out I'm going to be switching to my much lighter cloth shorts that don't allow for a belt more and more over my heavier denim or canvas shorts that do have a belt. Because of that I won't be able to carry that way anymore until it cools off.

I just ordered a new shoulder holster that looks to be much more comfortable than the one i've been playing with. Luckily, (or maybe not) due to my general body shape/mass I can wear a shoulder holster UNDER an oversized t-shirt without it being too noticeable. I actually just ordered a new more comfortable shoulder holster for that very reason.

Eventually I want to get a nice leather shoulder rig (named after jack and his donkey). they look spiffy and appear that they would be comfortable. The one shown in the link should be spot on in the mean time.
